Mechanics are good, but...
A mechanic was removing the cylinder heads from the motor of a car when
he spotted a famous heart surgeon in his shop, who was standing off to
the side, waiting for the service manager to come to take a look at his
car.
The mechanic shouted across the garage," Hello Doctor!! Please come over here for a minute."
The famous surgeon, a bit surprised, walked over to the mechanic.
The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked
argumentatively, "So doctor, look at this. I also open hearts, take
valves out, grind 'em, put in new parts, and when I finish, this will
work as a new one. So how come you get the big money, when you and me is
doing basically the same work? "
The doctor leaned over and whispered to the
mechanic.... .

He said: "Try to do it when the engine is running."

Yeah, but doctors can't order replacement parts like mechanics do.
And if the engine stops running during the repairs it is very difficult to get it started again, and the engine's computer gets completely wiped out if it stays turned off for more than a few minutes.

The real challenge doctors have is that living things weren't designed to be repaired from the outside. We are meant to be mass produced throw away products, kind of like cellphones and MP3 players. Going to a hospital to have a surgeon try to fix our guts isn't what the Flying Spaghetti Monster (http://www.venganza.org/) had in mind when he created us.
Even if one day it is possible to easily grow body parts in a test tube, installing those parts will still be a major pain in the arse. Think about all the little capillaries, veins, nerves, tendons and other tissues that have to be connected, the risk of infection, and the risk of lawsuits from medical malpractice lawyers.
Are we really debating who has more merit doctor's or mechanics. If so why?:p

With the exception of our friends from Findlay it's been my experience that as a general rule neither of them can fix s^%$.

Speaking of mechanics and surgery, I spent the afternoon shortening the front of the truck by about 1 foot and adding about 3 inches of clearance under the front bumper. Now I can have a little more fun off road.
