: What type of motor oil do you use?

I was wondering if it's really worth it to pay the extra $$$ for the synthetic oil. If yes, but type of oil do you use and how much oil is required for an oil change?

Thanks

Only if you intend to use it to it's capacity. Its cold flow characteristics as well as its oxidative stability make its advantages in extreme hot or cold climatic conditions as well as extending drain intervals.
There is much more to it than that but if you want all the motor oil info you will need to go to the motor oil website.
Mobil 1 and Amsoil , Redlinne are outstanding synthetic oils for your motor. Forget the hype and the marketing they do not produce any better wear than a regular conventional motor oil though. They produce the potential to survive extreme curcumstances and continue protecting your motor. They also include better addittive packages with that premium price contributing to the extended drain interval potential of good synthetic oils.

So it is basicly a philosophical decision. Dino if you can't see yourself going past 6 months or 5000 miles on motor oil. Synthetic if that doesn't bother you.
(also synthetic if you are a racer/supercharger tuner/just simpy mean to your truck )

I am using Mobil 1 0w30 and a motorcraft fl400s filter in my 3.4 taco. I require 6.25 quarts at oil change do to the fact that the filter is oversized. I replace filter at 6 months and the remaining.3/4quatrt of the 7 quarts purchased will carry out the year.

I use Castrol 10w-40 regular dino oil for all my oil changes. When I pulled my engine a few weeks ago after 230k miles, it looked pretty damn good. Still had hone marks in the cylinders and no scarring on the cam shafts. Not too bad considering.

Mobil 1 5W-30 and Toyota filters. It's not that expensive in the 5 quart size at Wal-Mart.

mobil 5w-30 and napa gold oil filter. ends up costing about 30 bucks an oil change. which is about what a dealer charges for standard dino oil change. and i know it's done right, by me!

Havoline 5w-30 w/ Napa Gold Filter.

I used to buy the Toyota filters, but the dealership isn't nearby.

Just a note: If you buy two or more filters from the dealer, they will usually give you a better price.

Nope it will work, I ran that for two years at 6 month oci's. It really doesn't matter much with our trucks.

Mobil 1 with Fram easy grip filter. Change it 3K-4k, being at school in the winter it can sit for a couple a weeks and then jump into a 4 hour road trip, I like knowing that the syn. leaves a film on the metal parts for longer than the dino.

The bobistheoilguy.com forums found that Mobil 1 5w30 gives the best oil analysis numbers of a bunch of different oils in the 3.4l. Good enough for me.

I use Quaker State High Milage 4x4/SUV Synthetic Blend 10w-30 with a phram oil filter (Walmart). I change my oil every 3000 miles religously. I used penzoil for about 120,000 mi. Im now at almost 170k miles and still running strong.

I have to laugh at the fact that we're all a bunch of Wal-Mart junkies...

Just look at us, fighting for our way through old ladies with a just-manageable load of Mobil 1 and oil filters in a hand-basket. You know who you are ;)

I use Mobil 1 10w30 in the summer, 5w30 in the winter since I live way up in Northern Canada. I have to use the sure-grip filters from Fram since I can't get much around here. I will be buying myself a load of NAPA Gold's next time I go to visit da city folk.

How bad is it to switch back and forth from one synthetic to the next? Like from Mobil to Valvoline then to Amsoil or Royal Purple?

I use whatever 5W 30 is on sale at autozone/advanced/Ho Reilly's/NAPA, which is usually NAPA brand, or Exxon. Then I put on the cheapest filter they have in the store, which is usally $1.99. Truck does fine.

Maybe I should buy them Toyota filters, since thats apparently what everyone else does. How much they cost?

I Castrol 5w30. We're still taking the truck to the dealer at the recommended service intervals and whatever.

Mobil1 10W-30 and Mobil1 filter. Royal Purple is good stuff too. I use Valvoline for motors that need break-in.
