Currently I have zero trees in my backyard. The one I had died. :(
It seems that these dang Bradford Pears are popular around my area, but way overdone.
I've got an area that doesn't drain well, so I'd like a tree there that loves water.
I'd like something that grows at a decent rate, has good color in the fall, and provides decent shade.
I'm leaning towards an Oak, Maple, Willow, or even a Dogwood.
Any other idears?

red or silver Maple grows fast and tends to like water, you might also consider cottonwood
Dogwoods like to be shaded by larger tree's
willow grows fast and LOVES water but :ack:

Dogwoods do like shade, and dont really get large, or at least large enough to provide a lot of shade. Sycamours like water, but I hate them (I have 2 in my yard I'd love to cut down.)
My favorite tree is a pin oak... they grow fairly fast for an oak, are a more taproot style tree, so you dont have the runners in your yard to hit with the mower like maples, and they're great for shade (but they do get huge).
I'd just call Karen and talk to her, she knows a lot, and can help ya out!

Willows grow super fast. We have a low spot on our farm that was completely open 5 years ago. Now there is a grove of 20-30 maples that are at least 15-20 feet tall. They're not the most desireable trees, but they serve a purpose.
I'm partial to cypresses in wet areas, myself!
