I know this is a newbie question (thats why its in newbie tech), but how do I know what the gearing is in my truck. Its still stock (04 Double Cab w/ 3.4L Auto Tranny (there wasn't a manual offered anyway). Oh and its a TRD if that matters.

Get your gear code from your service specifications sticker on the drivers side door jam, then go here (http://www.tacomaterritory.com/wiki/index.php/Gear_Codes) and decode it.

you have 4.10s
all v6 TRDs have that ratio (up to '04 models)

Jack up the rear end of the truck. Count how many times the driveshaft/ pinion rotates per one complete wheel rotation

Thats the best and most accurate way to know. While your waiting on hold with 1-800-TOYOTA...just spin the wheel and count the driveshaft rotations. You'll have your answer quicker! :D

Or I could just check the doorframe like I was told and find out that I have 4.10s.

no, it's farther inland...much farther. There is, however, plenty of water.

My 2002 Double Cab 4x4 TRD had 4.10's until I just recently changed them out to 4.56's. Are you wanting to change your gears?
