JDmodel2 from vansant enterprise, and 1 3/4 weld seam 1/8 wall tube.

Well there arent any comments about it so far so I'll point it out to yall. The upper tube that goes over the winch....Is it a little short? It is as tall as the top of the grill, and it can't be seen from the cab. There is also going to be some fender protection. The fender protection will likely be taller than the canter hoop. Stacy said he really didn't like stingers, but it just seems a lil low still. I also trimmed the grill even though he didn't want it trimed. I think he's gonna like it though, espically after he hits some trails, and realizes how good of an approach angle he wound up with.

It looks kinda like a mouth thats open and down /\ Need to weld some teeth in there or some fangs make it look mean! lol. I like it tho. What would you charge for some sliders? I could make some of my own but they would be crude and no bends... 45's and 90's lol

Personally, I think I'd like the stinger to be just visible over the hood, but it looks good as is. Will it look funny having the fender protection taller than that hoop? Overall, it looks like dang good work. I just may have to come visit you for some cage work someday in the future...

$75 plus tube sound ok to you? If you come get them I'll install em otherwise we can work out arrangements somehow, but I'd rather not ship. Shipping oversized packages is just to much trouble 4 me.

Look at my bumper in the background. The fender protection is taller than the winch guard hoop.

Its 30 to 35$ for a stick 21 ft long. How much you need depends on the desighn you desire, and the wheelbase, but roughly 28ft-42ft of tube.

If I brought my turd runner to your house and left it there while I'm in Belize (5 weeks or so) would that give you time to play with it? I'll be gone mid-May to mid-June. I'll even leave the keys to you can wheel it :D LMK if that's a possibility, as I'm not sure I'll be able to get over there before that.

Wow, one post at 8:20 & tube work is rocking. I like having comments on the project to read through before making up my mind what I like!!!

Seriously, I believe Faber 4x4 Fabrication is kickin' it in that A$$.

I like the up-swept corner look on the fender / grill blend & I like the "grimace" look of the "mouth". Top hoop could be taller, but I'm not tall & don't want anything that hinders vision or access to engine bay. I really like the look of the sliders . . . tucked for rocker protection w/ some wheel still outside for sliding toward. I like the direction this is going. It's gonna' be cool to watch the next section progress. That corner is gonna' be where the artist comes out of ole' mikey

The tube is HREW 1.75" OD w/ 0.125" wall.

Things I should have done before "commissioning" the project:
1. Wash the truck
2. Fix the headlight mountings
3. Made Michael sign a secrecy agreement b4 releasing pre-production photos. . . HA

I'm stoked at getting this done!

cory,
I got no idea what Michael is gonna' do next. Vertical bars for fairlead mount? Or not vertical . . . Skid plate in bottom hoop?
Obviously, winch is just sitting on jack stand now. Mounting appears yet to be finalized.
So many options.

That sounds like a great idea. I definately like some freedom, of design, and plenty of time to just sit and stare at it till something comes to mind.

The winch is just sitting there to show how I trimed the grill to fit. I'm not shure yet how the winch mount is gonna work out, but I'm thinking tieing it and another frame attachment point together. I still have the roller fairlead, to mount as well, and I'm going to tuck it as close to the winch as possible, while trying to keep it low profile.

OOPS! Well I guess I did have to get someones point of view, after all I told you, "you won't be disapointed". With our buisy lifes this seemed the easiest way to get your opinions. I think i will make a bend or 2 in the corners and see if I can better picture the flow as it would tie into the exhisting top hoop. I'm second guessing it couse in my opinion its a lil short. Now that I know you feel the same way it will be easier to justify bending up a new top hoop.

Yes I'm interested. A fj80 huh, that would be my 1st one of them. Let me know when you want to do it and we'll work something out. Heck ya might could just drive up on a saturday, and hang for a day or something, and go home with a bumper. I can save ya alot of coin over what one of them cost, and get you the changes you want.

Not to be too picky, but I'd like a few ideas incorporate if you don't mind. I'll buy ALL materials and we'll work out what you'd need beyond that. Plus, I'd like you to come up with a sweet something (stencil, shirt, I dunno...) for Faber4x4Fab so I can represent hardcore.

Did you not want kickouts on your sliders, Stacy? Also, they look a little narrow. Do yours jut out more, Michael? I have a feeling I'd like to be able to pivot like a top on my sliders. That's where you come into play, Michael, cuz you actually wheel. I'm almost back to web-wheeling these days :D

Stacy was up in the air on the kickouts, but was worried about hanging on them. The sliders stick out about 2 inches past the body, so they are about right. My sliders are even with the body, other than the kickouts, and I have gone through 3 sets of doors counting my current ones. Judging by what I saw at hotsprings you actually wheel too, Jordan.

I cut down the old upper tube and notched it to fit from one corner bar to the other and also to use as a winch mount. The winch bolt holes sit just over each tube so I cut holes through and sleeved the tube, got longer bolts and bolted the winch in tight. Stacy it is a good theft prevenative, but it will be nessicary to remove the grill in order to remove the winch. I went ahead and painted the winch mount before bolting it down so that you wont have to mess with the winch, other than taping it off. I am assuming you wanted black on your bumper. Some color might look nice.

Here u can barely make out the old upper tube. Also notice my version of a low profile roller fairlead mount . I tied it to the winch plate and at an angle accross the tube to keep it strong.
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l268/gittinit/helping%20out/oldtruck003-1.jpg

Here are the mounting bolts and the brace that I tied to the top and front of the crosmember. This little extra support will help alot if he were ever in an accident, or just hit a tree nice and square.
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l268/gittinit/helping%20out/oldtruck002.jpg

Then it was time for the new upper hoop. You can just make it out from the drivers seat, and it dosent block the view of the road.

I'll get some paint up there ASAP or just pick up some flat black & I'll pay you back. I think black will be the best choice. A flashy yellow or even chrome would stand out, but then I'd be concerned over scrubbing it off . . . na. Either way, black is the way to go.

its a stock carb.

A factory replacement filter is like 10 or 15 bucks, I'd just stick with that. If you want i'm shure you can get a k&n to fit in your factory breather. You can also buy an aftermarket breather that fits holly, and eldenbrock carbs and some how modify the porton that fits to the carb.

Thatz a cool comparison.
I'd not thought about that, guess the front fender lines are similar. Michael tells me he was using the PU truck fender lines to flow with the tube. Maybe Toyota designers were designing both vehicles at once?

side note: didn't get pick up the truck, had to work...still anxious about finishing the front clip details.

There arent any stock bumper braces left. Those 2 little tabs on the front crosmember were the 1st things to go. I would have cut off the little corner things and all that but I wanted to kick around a few different options for ya. No big deal....do ya need to borrow a sawzall? If you want to pay me back for the paint and clamps and stuff, just put it in the Kracker's glove box, otherwise I'll catch ya later. Bo is wanting to wheel sunday. You should bring it up and play, before work gets too out of hand.
