Looking for the oldest models available with factory equipped lockers front and rear. If I can find a clean one, I plan on installing a toyota diesel powerplant, and restoring and or building it to be a clean dependable off road rig. I have searched and I am still not sure when they first offered lockers front and rear as options. Any help greatly appreciated.
1993 was the first year to offer electric lockers if I remember correctly. They were available through 1997. Before 93, the rears were semi-float rear ends, and there was no locker option. If you ind a clean, well taken care of 93-97 without lockers, I would jump on it, and consider ARB's. It is possible to retrofit electric lockers into non-locked trucks, but it is a PITA, and expensive. Hope this helps.
That might be the way to go, installing ARB's on a non locked truck, especially if I can find a clean one. Are the 93-97 LC's more desired, or are there any other years to consider for my project?
a friend of mine just picked up a well-maintained clean 97 land cruiser with factory lockers and a little over 120k miles that has never seen any dirt whatsoever for around $8k in So-Cal. lockers are nice - makes me jealous!
Actually check out the 93's carefully if you want the FF rear and disc brake rear. Approx the first half of the 93's had drum rears and semi-ff rear, then they switched mid year to the disc/ff rear.
