Hey guys! I finally limped back to town, and am going to need to change my clutch. Anyone have a tranny jack I can borrow? Also, can anyone recommend a place to resurface my flywheel? Thanks!

Guess I don't know where you are. I found a great shop in Philomath for the flywheel if you're down that way. Did it while I waited.

Steve's Precision Machine in Tigard on 72nd off of 217 does good work, i dunno how swamped they are but they should be able to do it pretty quick

Good luck. I doubt many people have their own tranny jack. I'm going to try to rent one. There's a big rental place by Delta Park. I'm sure they have them for rent.

Yeah...I should probably rent one, but I bought a transmission jack adapter for my floor jack. It was only $40 at H.F., but who knows if it'll work. I figure I'll just jack up the engine, and support it on a jack stand, then swap the jack saddle out for the tranny jack adaptor and go from there. We'll see. I'm hoping to take care of it tomorrow, so wish me luck!

Are you doing the clutch on your 85 4Runner? I'll be doing the clutch on my 85 pick up soon, and wouldn't mind seeing how it goes together. Let me know if you need a hand.

FWIW, I used some 2x2 tube steel and made one that kinda worked when I did the clutch in my '99. Welded (2) top pieces about 14" long onto another ~12" long in an "H" pattern. Then tacked that whole mess to the lifting piece of my floorjack.

If I do it again I'll weld some nuts on the (4) corners and drill thru to use 3/4" allthread as a height adjuster on each corner.

Tranny jack is the way to go if you can find one.

Thanks for the offer, but I lucked out for now. I had a last minute post on the national board suggest that I check the pedal height after the master cylinder install. Although it didn't sound like it could be the culprit...it was! I still think that I'll be doing a clutch and rear seal sometime in the next year, but for now, I can put if off for a few more months.

If you do need help, let me know. I've read and re-read the Haynes manual and the FSM enough times to be able to change the clutch out blindfolded. Also, do you need a clutch? I have the Aisin clutch kit from Trailgear that I'd give you for $125. Let me know if interested.

That sounds rad...if only I had the welder, metal cutting blades etc! Sounds like a good fix. Have any pictures? I'd like to see if it looks anything like I imagine it!

Sorry, I don't. After I used it, off to the metal scrap bin it went. Didn't want to move it, figured I'd make a better one next time.
