I replaced my driver side axle shaft and have some other problems that have come up. Brake drum - the cover will not slide over the brake shoes. Is there a way to adjust the shoes.

My other problem is the lockright locker. When I had the rear third out, I checked out the springs within the locker and everything seems fine. However, after I installed everything back and took it for a test drive, whenever I go around turns, the locker is not disengaging. There was no metal shavings or anything when I drained the axle. So, I removed the third again, thinking I broke a spring. When I looked at it, everything was intact. I had 2 other sets of eyes look at it and check it and they couldn't figure it out. Anyone got any ideas why the lockright is not disengaging around turns while coasting? I'm going to email Richmond gear and see what they say.

I had the same problem when I was running drum brakes on the rear, do you have the star adjuster threaded all the way in?

I was looking at that today and figured I should try and adjust that and see if that works. I was more interested in trying to find out why my lockright wasn't working and this is why. Two of the four pins in the lockright has broken. Ordered new springs and pins yesterday and received them today. Had to take the third member to a shop to have the carrier bolts broken loose as my impact gun was not strong enough. Come to find out later the ring gear bolts are on frickin' tight as well and my impact gun can't break those loose either. Here's a pic of one of the shear pins. You can see the shear pin slightly angeled.

My lockright only disengages about half the time around corners so now you got me thinking I should take a look at the shear pins.

Thanks

Coasting or slightly pressing the gas to keep momentum? If you are coasting and this is happening, I'd sugget you take it out and inspect it.

If you have the Lockright #1615 model, here's the part number for the spring and pin kit: #1025350KAP. Summit racing has it for $10.99, their part number is #PWT-1025350KAP

If I try to coast through a corner it does the hurky jurky lock/unlock thing, if I give it a bit of throttle it will ratchet through the corner, and if I put my foot in it a bit more it will lock the rear end. Thanks for the part #'s. I think I will order a kit for a spare just in case I need it one day.

Thanks
Joe

Sounds pretty normal. The real science to owning a locker is finding the sweet spot where it behaves nice while on pavement.

did the locker still work properly as far as both wheels getting power all the time? cuz my front lockright is not racheting at all, but both wheels still get traction like they should. i suspect my pins are in the same shape, and i already have a new set, just tryin to make sure thats how yours was before i tore into it. i was thinking my pins were just bent or sumthin as it would seem that if they were all sheared that it wouldnt be totally "locked", but if yours was still "locked" thats more than likely all i need to change... (at least i hope) :)

Still got the traction. Pretty much the sheared pins disabled the disengagement. So, it acted as if it stayed locked 100%.
