Mercy me, errrr ah yep, that sure is yeller alright. LOL

How many pairs of sun glasses do you have to wear to drive it, Shannon? Here's an idea, just skip right to the welding helmet and be done with it. LOL

I can imagine.
At least you got a cage. I wish I had one even if it had pink padding.

Well, the only reason I could afford to get this one was that I won a gift certificate at a recent event I attended from a local shop for $200 bucks off a custom built cage. Out of pocket expense was $600 bucks.

did that used to be a "funoodle"? LOL Did you try looking at pipe insluation? It may have a smaller OD, and it's certainly not yellow :)

Damn, could you find a brighter color!! :) It looked good when I saw it last weekend, before you put all of your supersized tampons all over it! LOL!

TOYMINATOR

I could have gotten the padding in black if I wanted it...but I dig the yellow! Pipe insulation can't take the impact that this stuff can. You smack your head on a cage wrapped with pipe insulation and one with cage padding and you can certainly tell the difference.

So the front of the bars goes down thru the dash? Got any more pics of it, like maybe during installation?

I think it has to do with the fact that his gf is a blonde and slid it in the wrong hole and....well...it turned yellow.

Looks good. If you get sick of the yellow, there are manufacturers of that foam that make it in lots of colors and you can also get vinyl covers in various lengths to go over the foam. I like the integrated handle on the A pillar brace.

Yeah, I didn't want to sacrifice my leg room so he took the front legs through the dash.

I don't have any pics of the fabrication in progress...just took a couple of pics of it today. If you'd like more detailed pics of the way it goes through the dash I would be happy to take some tomorrow and post them.

Yeah, I bought the padding at a local race shop right down the road from me and they had a pretty big selection of colors.

I still gotta zip tie it all down...just got all of it cut and installed today. Believe it or not that's about 28 feet of padding installed. I purchased 10 sticks (they come in 3 foot sticks) and by the time I was finished I had about a 2 feet of the stuff left.

Nope, the head liner is still in it as well as all the interior trim pieces. The only thing I had to do away with was the rear view mirror. The carpet is out of it currently as I am replacing it with a molded rubber flooring that I ordered and am expecting to arrive next week.

Thanks Shannon! Did you/they have to reroute A/C ducts or anything in the dash? Any particular reason you bolted it to the cab instead of welding/bolting it to the frame?

No, did not have to reroute any A/C ducts.

The cage is attached to the frame. That plate you see has another plate opposite of it on the underside of the floor pan that attaches to the frame. Essentially, the floor pan is sandwiched by a top and bottom plate.

Ah okay, cool. I'm still trying to decide between an exo and in-cab cage. One of the things that was kinda steering me away from an in-cab was the typical design that comes down in front of the dash and essentially blocks the side vents. Knowing you didn't have to reroute anything, it seems like a much better idea to just go thru the dash. Thanks again for those pics.

The one snag they ran into during fabrication was in the area pictured in that last photo. The problem was, the A/C blower motor is directly behind that tubing which if that one leg were welded permantly in place it would have made it impossible to pull the blower motor if/when the time came to change it. The decision was made to clamp (or bolt) that one leg of the cage to the tubing that is hidden under the dash that runs all the way across from the driver to the passenger side making that one leg removable.

I just wasn't to keen on the idea of not being able to replace that blower motor when the time came and have to lose my precious A/C! :)

that's some quality workmanship to say the least! and for that price that is incredible. how did they protect the headliner when welding inside the cab?

I'm not sure how they protected it. They obviously shielded it with something though.

Nice job on the fit around the dashboard!

I have to agree with some of the others, that's really yeller! Are you showing your Lance Armstrong support?! :xbeer1:

I think they had like 2 days of fabrication in it...although my rig did sit over at their shop for over a month before they started it. I was in no big hurry for it and they were extremely busy with other projects.
