Today I noticed an annoying click in the front end of my FJ62. It was definitley a rotational click that was occurring as the tire went around. Riding with my head out the window, I could tell the noise was coming from my Driver's Side Front Wheel. I also noticed that as soon as I applied any brakes that the noise would stop.
As soon as I got home, I jacked up the offending wheel and spun it by hand. I found that the brake pads were sort of dancing inside the caliper as the wheel spun, and that THAT was the source of the clicking. My wife had all the brakes serviced while I was gone. All the pins and clips seem to be installed correctly, and the passenger side (with the same pads) is fine.
What would be the cause of this?
A worn out caliper?
Brakes not bled properly?
I hear the same sounds from my 2005 tacoma. I checked the pads and they look good. I'm thinking the pads need a glue on the back to keep them from making a racket.
I had to use sig(silence is golden) on my cutlass pos to get the brakes quiet. Maybe it's the same deal?

You have to Compress the Front Brake Pistons to place the New Pads in there, yes. Just use a Big C-Clamp for those or the Brake Piston Compressor Tool.No need to bleed the system for changing just the brake pads and Rotors unless of course you got Air in the lines some how by disconnecting them. You can also rebleed if you feel the pedal is not as firm as it should be after the pad change.
That was helpful. Do you know how much a local hotel stay is? How about renting a small excavator.
Swabbie,
Did you ever figure this out?
