Since I am now stuck back home,
I thought I would resume to web wheeling and start the thread.

I must say this was probably my most eventful trip and most expensive

Unfortunately due to the weather, the turn out was a bit lacking, hopefully Sunday will bring much better weather and a larger crew, We will have to wait on the fellow members for those details....

Started off the day with wind, and then soon to come the rain, as we headed down J1.
My first time ever down that trail and now I know why they close it in the winter, that off camber was def a little sketchy to me at times, and I am sure my passengers (Nick and Clint, you got a good show today) where feeling some of the same fear I was as they looked out my passenger window.

All was going well for me, definitely excited cause I had never taken J1 before and I was on my way to trying my first blue/black, in the rain non the less, so my passengers were definitely going to get a great show.
So as we head down its time to turn onto 13, and I am feeling slightly confident but still in the process of changing my pants from the off camber fun.

Got to say that this was the most exiting part of my off-roading experience so far.
13 proved to be a real test for my rig, and I have a few list of things that I will need to alter or ad, on being a diff in the rear I can unlock and lock without having to take the motor off and have to push the fork over....

So while having our fun down 13 and me holding up the line cause of my slow pace, but not so steady or gentile, 1/4 through Andy hopes on the CB and comments on how my "Spool" is giving me some issues. At this point I should have known that something wasn't right....
We get to about 3/4 through 13 when the group as a hole realizes, my front tires are not spinning, I have been 2WD'ing it for the most part, and trust me, my t-case was in 4lo.....and of course this was at probably the more harder part of the trail...
After getting my out of the tough spot, Mark came to examine my rig and asked me to power brake in 4lo to where he noticed that my front drive shaft was spinning pretty fast, and that I wasn't going anywhere....

So we jack up one side of the truck, and find my issue, I have blown my 1st CV joint in the history of my wheeling experience w00t!!!

So we get to the staging area, make a few calls, get the old shaft out, HUGE thanks to everyone, Mark, Jim, Andy, Brad, Nick, and all, you guys are a blessing, in the pouring rain they helped me get back on the road, head to Pottsville, get a replacement, install, chat a little, and then I headed back home.

Hope you guys enjoy the beer, wish I could have gotten you more cause 18 just doesn't seem like enough.

And I saw a few cameras out in the one spot where we all realized I didn't have 4wd anymore, so I hope to see something at least lol!!!

Thanks again for a great run from what I was able to do, and it was great to meet most of you for the first time and to see a lot of familiar faces!
Hope to be back out soon with you guys, then maybe we can go further then just one trail lol

At least you got one trail in - a few minutes after pulling into the parking lot I got a phone call and had to run back home double time (the KM2s feel alot better at 90 than my old tires :D)

Yep, that was me with the brand new tires just aching to get dirty - my biggest offroad moment this weekend was bombing through a 1/2" deep puddle by the side of the road . . . I dominated that mofo puddle :D

yah Avy , the drop in to trail j1 is sweet , my first time was last years fall crawl . but when we went through last year , it was a river since it rained heavy from about 7 am till the time we came off the trails. I wish I would have gone this weekend. hope to see pics . maybe we can get a run in before christmas.

Damn, those CVs must be pretty weak if you broke one.

At least you got to wheel. I spent all weekend being grinder bitch at Jordan's shop. That and I tried cutting my finger off with a grinding wheel cause I'm an idiot. I don't mind though. He's helped me out more than I can thank him for. Grinding wasn't bad until his buddy Rick and I had the dueling grinders going on.

Looking forward to seeing pictures. Hurry up and post up fawkers! I would have had mine up by now. :flipoff4:

The cv was probably about due,
considering the number of off road trips and miles it has one them,
that and my foot isn't the lightest which I need to work on.
I mean I didn't even hear it go, I thought at one point I heard a noise that sounded like my tie-rod end binding up a little but then I thought I was fine.

Oh well, the joys of off-roading

Avy, I think you stressed that CV when you accidently jumped the truck a few weeks ago. I dont think you did it on 13. Jeremy and I hammer on ours alot harder then that and they have held up. Dont forget Jeremy's got a V6 with a blower and 35's and got a heavy foot too.

So next time your going to have a 35 or 36mm socket a good sized prybar, some locktite and a spare CV. Right?

YotaFun
10-27-2009, 06:22 PM
Yeah, This payday I will be gettign the prybar and socked and locktite and another set of needle nose plyers since mine have seemed to disappear from my garage....

Then I will be replacing the other side, and then next weeks paycheck will be spent getting another spare...

I have accidently jumped the truck worse then I did at Centralia on back roads by my house and still was able to wheel.
Its probablt just time....

Looks like Crawler Ridge. Brad pulled off one hell of a save. And to think he almost got to make use of his new exo.

Edit:

You guys let Jason back on the Creek after last year's Fall Crawl? Are you out of your minds? :p

yeah it was crawler ridge.. the save was awesome he hit the gas when most people would have stabbed the brakes. i wish i was there to see that one but he did that friday, he was out with some guys he didn't know.

yeah jason was running his mouth about my buddy with the jeep and how it was gonna break because it was a jeep. i told him to shut his mouth because his truck isn't much better..lol but everyone did well on sunday we had a great day of wheelin

he hit the gas when most people would have stabbed the brakes.

I made that mistake already. Good thing it was nice soft dirt where I went over. I've since been in the position where I would have went over if I did the same thing again. Learned real quick what NOT to do. :D
