: Sad day

I started to change my oil Sat. and found frame cancer.
I took her in this morning and she failed.
Classic Toyota = assholes!
The service writer & manager told me I could not remove ANY parts unless I replaced them with stock shit and Toyota would NOT pay me for any of my parts.

I said FU and went to a different dealer and the service manage said he would make some calls and get back to me later to day. If I don’t hear from him I will call Toyota in the am.

I want to take some stuff like bumper, stereo, sliders & front diff. Then I would like ½ the cost of all the suspension parts added to my check. Like I told the dealers I have receipts for everything I put on my truck. I don’t think I’m asking too much they want me to youthinies my truck for nothing not going to happen dammit.

when i took mine in they let me drive it home and i just took everything i could off as long as its drivable to the dealer they dont look at is, i didn't have any front axles in mine and parts of the interior were gone. the guy that does it is an independant person that toyota hires to take care of the recall stuff and he didn't give a crap about the condition of anything as long as it starts up and drives to the truck full of sad little tacomas. i miss it.

Do you still have any stock parts to put back on? Maybe we can have a W.A.T. and throw that stuff back on…. It'd evem be worth your while to buy some junkyard stock parts...

rear shocks
side mirrors
tail lights

then I also want to take this stuff but I will put some junk yard crap under it so it will lot drive

rear axle
rear springs
front coil springs
front sturts
rims and tires

and lots of other misc stuff that they will never know about

Sorry to hear that. It was a nice truck. that is BS that they wont let you strip it... My rep let me take everything off, as long as it was movable. he said they can winch it on flatbed if they had too. and the second one when they replaced my frame they let me cut sliders off my old frame.I wish I had more insight and took more. Hell, the manager even asked if I wanted to upgrade suspension for cost of parts only, the labor was already payed for buy toyota. Good luck and hope to see you on the trails again.

I am leaving work early today to go to pull a part to see if I can find an axle to throw under her so I can take my TRD axle off.

Don't know if it still there or not, but the 88 4runner at the cleveland east location that I got my leaf springs from would be a good one to start with, seeing as how I already did all the work to remove the axle. But that was a while ago.

You could always find a decent solid axle xtra cab like Terry's and have a nice tough relatively cheap rig. Lots of great things about those trucks, just have to find one with a good frame. Of course I prefer a good 1985 4runner myself.

Full_Tilt_Fud

Like we have talked joe, i think you will be happiest with another xcab 3.4 taco. The early toys are soooo underpowered if you are gonna dd it and drive all over the country wheeling. 80 mph freeway runs are out of the question. I personally hated the short wheelbase on my 4runner, it always felt tippy and unstable compared to my tacoma. 80 series cruisers are nice but they just feel huge compared to a tacoma.

Damn, 33's. My tires are 245/75R16, so 30's. You probably won't be able to fit 16" rims anyway. I think those things have massive calipers and rotors.

Full_Tilt_Fud
11-24-2009, 10:48 AM
my book shows 17's as the smallest factory rim with a 245-70-17 tire standard and a 265-70-17 as the optional size.

If 16's will fit, which I think they might, 245-75-16 would be the same overall size as the 245-70-17's.

I would deffinately recomend pulling the 20's off and going to something narrower like the 17" sizes for the winter as it will greatly help. It should be easy to find a set of OE 17" wheels for it the I would probly go with the optional 265-70-17's for added ground clearance if you can't get 16's to work

alot of it is most likely the tires.......they are picky bastards especially when they are about worn out.

you can't get a historic plate like Jed got??

it also looks like in the pic they have been custom grooved........if that is so then what you describe is exactly what will happen. When I cut my 33's they work 100x better off road and 100x worse on road

So what you’re saying is that you’ll be getting 40” LTBs now?!?!?!

NEV2DEP
12-29-2009, 09:40 AM
I don't think they make a 40 LTB for a 16.5 rim
thinking more along the lines of some 39.5 Iroks

12-29-2009, 10:34 AM
Ah, I forgot they’re 16.5s. They only 16.5 they make in the LTB is the 47… you could run those! Who cares about losing your crawl ratio and breaking axles…. That stuff is overrated anyway!

I agree, they may not have had the bite a new tire would have, but you seemed to get around well enough. Maybe airing down a little more would be an option for you too. How much did you have at Frosty Balls? You have to watch 16.5's though, they pop beads easier than 15's.

True I forgot to air down, I had no clue how much air was in them. I put air in them to drive up there but no clue how much because I didn't have a guage that fit inside the rock rings.Hope I don't pop beads with the bead locks

I was going to say the same thing. Your sidewalls didn't flex at all really. I'm thinking you could run 5psi easily.

simple4runner
01-08-2010, 05:52 PM
I didn't realize you had beadlocks. I run 3 psi in the rear tires and 5 in the front. I used to run 8 or 10 psi before I made my beadlocks. There's a definite difference in the bite the tires get now. You may even be able to go lower since those tires are bigger, depending on the sidewall stiffness. I'd air down untill there was a definite bulge in the sides and a nice flat contact patch on the ground.

That's just up the road from me but the price seems high. for 65% tread I'd give about $100/ tire, the 30% tread I wouldn't give more than $50. IMO.

Sad to say I have only had it one time wheeling. But I Love the exo . Right now it is setting at the storage lot with a broken boggie spring that I managed to break trying to get over the snow mound they had plowed up in front of my lot and at least 1 completely flat tire.

Do you remember what you used for the boggie leafs? I have a few different options for the replacement.

I have been watching the build on the runner lookin good man.

the buggy leaf is a toy rear main leaf cut in half. Little tip on getting the inserts out of the tires when you put on the new ones..... Shampoo and 2 guys :) works well.

Thanks on the runner, the roof is getting cut off too. But thats for another thread. Any other questions don't hesitate to ask.
