Well, we got the front bar welded between the frame rails, cut the ifs out, grinded one side of the frame rails smooth, put on the rear leaf springs, and swapped the oil pain in. Currently the truck is sitting on the ground really; all the weight on the new springs to make measurements as the springs look w/ weight on them.
Plz be patient for pics, Christian forgot his camera cable. There will be LOTs of HUGE pics to look through in the post.

Day 2:
Well, we got the leaf spring set up all measured and centered. The truck is sitting on all 4 again. The front end seems to be 3 inch taller than the rear and i'm not crazy about cracking open new alcans and taking leafs out. Welded in the front brace in completely. Most of my collection of parts are designed for this build, but we have finally found a snag. I ordered a steering shaft from all pro, it has borgeson ends to it. Well the shaft coming out of the steering wheel has a square key to it, the part I ordered doesn't. This set back kinda knocked the wind out of today. Tomorrow plans are to get the steering all put together, finish welding up the leafsping setup, put the bumper back on.
Will the project get done tomorrow??????????????????
Plz anyone who can and wants to come by it would be great, if only to catch up on old times.

So, Day 3:
Well, we got the steering going, welded up the leaf spring setup, cut the fenders, remounted the front bumper. The project will be finished next weekend. We need to finish welding on it, button up the steering, brakes, and little things. I def. would like to thank phil and ann for their hospitality on this project. Blane, Matt, Paul, Jack, Derek and anyone else that stopped by( sorry, i'm tired).

That looks great guys! Christian, I don't know what your plans are for the fenders but I used some vacuum line on mine with gorilla glue to stick it on. get a razor blade and cut down the center, pour some glue in there, stick it on the fender and put paper clips over the line and onto the fender to hold it on while the glue dries. it's an inexpensive way to cover the cut line. wear some latex gloves using the glue! it stains clothes and skin. stack some weight on the bumper to get the springs to settle down when you aren't driving it. also just go flex it out. mine started settling a little with each trip out.

Blaine, I thought you were going to give me your banana shackles.
Dang Christian and his huge, gigantic, outrageously large... incriminating pictures.
Sorry about that. Remember when you drove my truck and how it shook like a B' every time you hit a bump. Well, I had the guys look at it when I was at Phil's and Jack pointed out that my front shackle / leaf bushings were shot. That had allowed the drivers side spring to slide from the center of the shackle off of the bushing, on to the puck and all the way over to the tire side. Meanwhile, the passenger side was still in the center causing the axle to not be completely perpendicular with the frame. Thus, the front suspension was putting itself in a bind and shaking violently. So while I had the thing apart I threw in "your" shackles.
Long story short, thanks to everyone, problem fixed, and my straight shackles have your name on them :).
P.S:
C, sorry for the high jack.

the 12s are good up front but in the rear he needs some 12s too, 14s up front and 12s rear would be perfect.

01-20-2010, 09:04 AM
Well, I started tinkering around w/ the truck again. Since i'm broke as the damn U.S. treasury I worked on little items that needed addressing.
First I fabbed up a radiator skid plate:
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e128/link817/SAS004-1.jpg
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e128/link817/SAS003.jpg
This was my first item i've ever fabbed up myself so i kept it simple. There is a nice place for a interesting sticker which i'm working on.
Next I needed to hold down my tire, so i cut a hole in the bed and used the factory spare tire holder.

Lastly I needed to mount my new high lift that I won at takeover; I even went out and got some stuff to protect this one.

In the coming months i'll slowly get this truck back to where i want it, but its a long list for me.

I think that is exactly what I want to do with my hilift. What did you use to do all that? I like it!

looks like 2 bolts, 2 or 4 washers, 2 nuts, and 2 wing-nuts

yeah, just some bolts and washers, the bolts are have two nuts holding them to the bed w/ a washer combo. just make sure to drill the holes on the flat parts of the bed, i just measured through the bed cover and drilled. That is why my bolts are tilted. wing nuts holding the highlift down, i think there is maybe $10 in the mount.

Very Cool idea with the spare tire. Have the front springs settled at all to even the truck out?
Off topic, i have one of those Hi-lift mounts if anybody wants one

nope, the front is still a bit high atm. actually wheeling the truck will help a lot though.

Quick update:
I've gotten the arb compressor installed,
Had work done on the brakes, who knows if this will ever be cured,
Welded on rear frame braces,
I've also had some setbacks,
In attempting to change out the ctms I found that I had twisted slines on the stub shaft.
The steering box has a leak in it also.
Once i let the dust settle from this part of my project I am looking at installing my crawler, d-shaft work, and building a custom skid plate.
