I recieved a PM from a member in OH. Other then that I haven't from any TTORA members. I have received notes of interested from guys on IH8MUD and Pirate4x4.com. I would assume I haven't received a lot of interest because I just posted details and the event is 5-6 weeks away. I am hoping for 20-25 trucks to turn out.

Bring as many as you can.....Is there still a MN chapter??

For those that have been to Rockport, a friend of mine lives equal distance to the two places and prefers to go to Dans.

Is there still a MN chapter??

No, there isn't. The MN Chapter was dissolved some time ago.

Adam sold his Taco for some POS GMC. Justox, down in Winona, MN, is about the only other Minnie person that might still be driving a 'Yota from the original Chapter, other than me & Steve-O.

I saw a link to your Pirate post from Brian Gallus on the MN Toy 4x4's site. You might get some interest from there as I dropped a post with your recent info on that thread.

Thanks for the update. You guys should come down. I am still in contact with Justox. He came down a coule years ago for the Labor Day event. I sent Brian a PM a week or so ago on Pirate giving him the link to my first post that was more or less for getting a feel for things. I also have contact with Cole(alwaysbroken on pirate) who is just south of the twin cities. He came down in the spring with some friends and had a blast. I know he wants to come back down, but needs to finish his rig. Not sure what club he is in. Maybe MN Toy 4x4. Haven't heard from Cole for a week or so. :(

Hope a group of guys from MN come down.

Don't know where I'll be physically. Still having ever continuing back problems. :(

We were thinking about it though, but have other plans for later in the month, too. I don't hear much from Marv in Muscatine anymore - he was the original host for Tall Corn I @ Solon & we drove to & wheeled Moab together @ the 2001 TakeOver.

Seems kind of pricey though for 2 days/2 rigs (at least for us) & I'm not much for camping anymore, with this back of mine. Anything with softer beds & Jacuzzi's around? :D

There is no comparison between Dans place and Solon. Dan's is 10 times better and at least 3 times bigger.

As far as the price, I think if you look around at what the offroad parks in the midwest charge or even the events in the midwest you will find this is right in the ballpark. Most are $20 a day and the hours are limited. At Dans you can wheel all night if you want. :D I don't believe camping is included at the other offroad parks.

If your not into camping there are hotels in Knoxville, which is 12 miles north.

Here is a link to my pictures from Dans place(also known as MIOBI)......

I have wheeled my 97' Tacoma there a few times. It has open diffs. I am guessing a prerunner would perform like a 4x4 with open diffs. If thats the case then there are some wooded trails that you would be able to do.

Free admission, 11+ miles of dedicated 4x4 trails, free camping & night-wheeling, if you dare: Spider Lake OHV (http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/ohv/spider_lake/index.html)

Free admission, 1200 acres & gnarly: Gilbert/Iron Range OHV (http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/ohv/iron_range/index.html)

I understand. I am kind of a tight-wad too. I am hoping to get up to Iron Range next year. When I was saying compare to offroad parks I was refering to Rockport offroad park, The Cliffs, and Badlands. My understanding is for Iron Range that you need to purchase a sticker. ($38.50??) Great deal if your close and plan to go several times. Kansas Rocks requires a sticker also. I believe $10 a visit or $50 a year.

I haven't been able to travel with my Runner yet. I need to trailer it if I am going further then 2 hours. I probably wont have a truck to tow with until next year.

Hope you decide to come down. The more the merrier. :D

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

>"Vehicles currently licensed in another state need not purchase a Minnesota off-road sticker."<

For Spider Lake, out-of-state rigs need not be MN OHV licensed. For Gilbert, they're a bit pickier about all kinds of things. Our OHV licenses are for 3 years, which breaks down to $13/year for us residents & I know I get my money's worth out of it. If your rig is OHV licensed for Iowa, you don't need one for here. :D Hell, MI charges $16.50/year for theirs (I'm licensed for this year there, too).

I've never paid to use a private OHV area because we only have a couple near here (Ma & Pa Rockers in Superior, WI & Farmer's Field in Northfield, MN - currently closed due to liability issues) & the "free" choices are better. Peterson's 4WOR mag's "Ultimate Adventure" LOVED Gilbert & they've added tons more trails since we were up there the 1st year they opened (& in the winter I might add, which makes things a bit dicer on even the easy trails). Ted's Revenge & Money Talks are supposed to be sweet.

No problem about a misunderstanding. Good information to know! Iowa doesn't have an OHV program for trucks. There is only one OHV park that allows trucks. That being Ely OHV park near Solon. Rumors are that trucks will not be allowed there in the very near future. Nothing was required to go there. No waivers, sticker, or fees. Very small area with narrow trails designed for ATV's

I don't know if I can make it or not, as it's leaning against the doubtful side.

I'm gonna be in Lawrence KS the 15th for Mike Dillons (Frog Brigade) B-day Bash where 4 of his bands are playing all nite, and then I gotta be back in Chicago the 16th to video Skeriks gig here.

Maybe I can head up Saturday? But I may be pretty damn beat. If I do I'd say it'll just to be to hang out and maybe camp that nite.

I'll see as it gets closer.

If anyone is interested, we've got a big group of folks who are heading up to Gilbert October 7th for the weekend. 1,200 acres of rocks :D . Sorry for the hi-jack. Here's a link http://www.mntoyx4.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4517

You guys still doing Tall Corn?

I may head up Saturday Afternoon if you are. Don't want to run my truck as it's gonna be up for sale, and you know I can't help but get massive amounts of body damage when I go out!

Will anyone have room for me to run shotgun w/ them on thetrails?

Will it still be $50 if I don't run my truck?

Yes, we are still doing Tall Corn. If your just going to ride with someone no need to pay. The $50 is for 2 adults in a rig for the weekend. I am sure someone will have room. I am guessing Chad will chime in sometime. I might have room, but may not know for sure until a couple days before. Just show up. ;)

Question:
What exactly is the camping situation? I'll be camping both nights, so I need to figure out what kit to bring.

+Is it total wilderness - carve out a campsite anywhere?

+Are there bathroom facilities or do I need my camp toilet?

+Is firewood available, or can we cut/scavenge firewood, or do I need to bring some?

+Water - fresh water available? or pack in what I might need?

Oh - and is there an address that I can mapquest?

Jamie,
Here are the answers to your questions.

+ There is a camping area with electrical hook ups, picnic tables, fire pits. Labor Day weekend event there were 50+ rigs and the camping was maybe half full.

+ There are electrical hooks up, porta potties, showers available, and a sink. I wouldn't bring your camp toilet. Porta potties are cleaned on a weekly basis. There is even toilet paper.

+We can cut firewood. I am gonna speak with the guys that are local and see if at least one of them has a chain saw.

+ You could get water from the sink if you want. I believe there is a hose hooked up. I am going to bring bottled drinking water.

There is a Caseys General store 2 miles down the road. There is also a Wal-mart in Knoxville that is about 15 miles away. I thought I had sent you a map showing where Dans land is in comparison to Hamilton Iowa. When I mapquested his address it showed in a spot where I am pretty sure its not. Not sure what the deal is with that. I am gonna call Dan on Monday. Do you need me to email directions and maps again?

What I have provided is probably the best available. After you cross Cedar Creek just take it slow so you don't miss it. What time are you planning to come? I am planning to be there sometime between 3-4pm

I am planning to park my 4Runner out by the highway near the entrance so others will see it. :D

I am going to take all my gear to work with me on Friday, and bag ass out of there as soon as I think I can get away with it. Worst case scenario, I'll be getting there around 6:30 - 7:30pm, but I hope to be able to get out of work soon enough to get me there by 4pm or so.

I just did a MapQuest from my home to Hamilton, IA, and attached the map you sent me - looks like I'll be good to go on directions. Says it's 347 Miles.

Just take it slow when you turn right on Highway 5 out of Hamilton. Its probably a mile or so down the road. Maybe less.

I am not concerned about the reliability of my 4Runner. Its the fact that it has 4.10 gears, 35's, and a 4 cylinder. Its a dog going up hills on the highway. I can't imagine how poorly it would be in the Rocky Mountains.
