I'm sure most of you who have performed a SAS on your truck may have used the BENTUP power steering kit. Does anybody know what size adapter he uses in his kit for the high pressure to the power steering box?

I know the adapter looks like this one:

http://static.summitracing.com/global/images/prod/norm/sum-220648_m.jpg (http://store.summitracing.com/largeimage.asp?part=SUM-220648)

I believe it may be an -6 AN to Pipe thread. But, I don't know how big the Pipe Thread side is, 3/8" 1/2", I'm not sure.

Anybody know? AJ isn't answering his phone.....

What you need is a 16mm to AN-6 adapter - Earls part#9919DFJERL. One place to find it is here: http://www.amstreetrod.com/9919BFAERL.php4

I have been trying to find out the same thing, but I havn't got a reply back. I bought mine from them and I must have screwed up the fitting or it was defective, either way it's leaking and I need to buy a new one.

If you call American Street rod just ask them.... its where we buy our stuff since they are right down the street.
you'll need two of the fittings --one for the box and one for the pump, then you need two JIC hydraulic hose fittings and a section of hose just to connect it up.

Converting everything to JIC is definately the way to go. How else do you buy a replacement pressure hose at 9 am on a saturday for $25? Yes, we run JIC on our yellow taco.

Ron go down to Granbury tube and hose on Baseline just east of Country club, they can make you the line you need in 3 mins with the right size fittings it is high quality stuff.

I like the idea of using parts that I can replace without having something custom made. I have an extra power steering line... I just like the idea of this one. I want to talk to Mike and see how its working out.

i have this setup and have had it break on the trail due to installation error on my part---but i can also fix the thing on the trail. When you thread on the ends onto the hose, dont overtighten as it will strip the hose giving it no 'bite'. add a few hundred pounds of hydro fluid thru it and it can pop off the hose end. the fix is just to hacksaw the bad 1" of hose, and screw it back down correctly. I've also had holes rubbed thru the outer hose from zip tie failure, but the stuff is stainless steel braided so it doesnt burst. The setup has been proven in the tractor industry, since they use it on all sorts of big toys.

How much does the setup cost... and where is the best place to get it? I want to replace mine, probably use it for a spare.

thanks for your help!

I used the Bentup setup and it has worked great. After getting the steering fluid topped off, the 37" tires are turning great, and the PS pump hasn't made too much noise about it. I also have a cooler in line to keep the fluid temp down a bit. So far, I have put nearly a thousand miles on, with most of it cranking in the Back Country of Moab, and no leaks. The fittings are working great!

Hey! what do you know, searching does work :lmao:

I have been trying to figure out the size of adapters for the gear box so I can order my powersteering lines and found your post. I can't measure the gear box ports myself since I have the box at home and am suppose to be working now.

thank you thank you thank you! I was feeling like such a :newbie: I was about to start another thread!

got another couple of questions though, okay maybe a few. what do you do with the banjo fitting on the pump end? is that 16mm fitting the one for the gear box? what is the overall length of the two hoses? (high pressure and return)

should I ask AJ if their kit includes both hoses for the $75 or is that just for one hose. I went to their site, but did not find the answer to that last ??

The blue fittings take place of the banjo fitting. your idle up sensor on the banjo fitting will not be used anymore (either an electrical plug or vacuum line into the banjo fitting). The blue fittings are the exact same on the pump and the IFS box.
Hose length is about 4' i think.
The kit only includes the high pressure hose. For the return hose i just used plain jane rubber hose w/ some hose clamps.

Have you checked with Summit, they carry some of the fittings, and you posted that you like them:)

Yea! I called them last night when I got home, They didn't have all the fittings, but close enough I can make it work. but thanks for replying. I should have gone back and deleted my post, but you beat me to it by replying.

FYI to anyone that is needing to order hose, American street rod ( http://www.amstreetrod.com/CatalogIndex.php4) told me that they are back ordered on most of Earl's fittings. And due to the SEMA show they can not be certain when they are going to have their order with Earl's filled.

I know, I know! you almost got a call last night, but I called Summit and was too tired to deal with it all any longer.!

Next time though!

Please tell me that you are out of stock on them now. I really want to think I didn't screw the pooch on this one and if you say you have them. I will be kicking myself in the nuts! LOL

actually most hydraulic shops, tractor places, etc... should carry the JIC fittings. And no we do not have a stockpile of the earls stuff at the shop sitting in the bottom yellow bin on the left side.

The body of the fitting screws on to the outside of the hose counter-clockwise digging into the cover pretty good. The inner part then threads into the center of the hose clockwise, kinda locking everything together. The hose doesn't mess around either, had to cut it with a cutoff wheel after it ate a sawzall blade!

All the part numbers are in the pic at the top of the thread. You can get the stuff at Summit Racing if you want. Not sure about the ID, but those parts all work together nicely!

yunny.... yes.. also make sure to use lube... and dont tighten the main cap down to far and strip the hose, or else you have to cut it off and screw it on again.

YUNADERIS

awesome

thanks chuck....do you have a recommendation for the lube? will petrol jelly work for the cap or is there something specific to use? you are talking about using lube on the cap correct?

thanks again

when you stick the male piece into the tight rubber hose, any lube will help. otherwise the friction can melt the rubber. PB, WD, and KY all work...

sweet..thanks chuck... i just got some vagisil intimate lubrication the other day at the store and its a pretty big bottle so there is plenty to spare for the ps hoses :)

If the flexible end of the stock high pressure line is making a u-turn under the battery tray to get to the steering box, it will eventually fail. I've seen it happen a few times.

It's always a good idea to have a spare high pressure hose too.

I second that! I went ahead and sourced everything out for myself and it was a PITA. I should have gone through Chuck and AJ, but I am stubborn! But if there is a next time, I am definitely getting the stuff from them!
