Winch Cover

I just got my new winch installed, with synthetic line, into my ARB. I am wondering if I need to protect it more from the elements? It's enclosed pretty well inside the bumper, but it is still easy for rain, road grime, etc. to get at it. Do you guys use them or not? How is my synthetic line going to hold up without a cover?

Don't need to protect the rope from the elements. They are used on ships and are exposed to some pretty nasty weather and they hold up just fine. Some pretty good information on google about topic. I can not remember the sites, but I know that they are out there...
