I always wanted to do something like this....but never had a good reason to sand all my paint off and do a ton of work. THEN I munched my truck...... passenger side.....damn it....

last year after seeing Yogi's truck at takeover I soooooo wanted to do a woodland camo version of his paintjob. 50 billion sanding hours....and 100 million cans of paint.... I am done.

I still have some work to do on the shell and that will be done in a week or so.

When you cant wheel you must find something to do with your truck :):)

first sand and paint all the chrome to black

then mask and sand and mask and sand...black primer.....99% of the work is sanding and masking...spraying the paint was the easy part.
I almost stopped when the truck was primer black...but I wanted camo.

then goes the green.... someone said it looked minty fresh :):) and it did LOL
bumper also got a good sanding and fresh coat of paint. its the least I could do for the poor thing getting bashed and painted and re-bashed again and again. looks good now. then I can bash and paint it more :)

now its time to mask off for the pattern. after many many pics http://www.norcalttora.com/~dean/truckstuff/camoideas/ of camo military trucks and tanks and helos and planes and stuff I decided on the pattern. this took the most time but was the most fun to do. I took pics of all sided of the truck and sketched out a pattern so I could get an idea of what I wanted it to look like when I finaly masked it out. this took two days to finish.

then paint the first set of pattern. I had to mask off the pattern in two stages when the colors were touching each other....does that make any sense? hell I dont know...you can figure it out :)

paint is done, let it dry for a night and install all the trim and stuff and things.

no, they mean ultra flat. the paint i used is just flat....it has a little sheen to it. the krylon has no sheen to it.

I have a buddy that has used the camo ultra flat black it is very flat, so flat that you don't have to worry about touch ups at all, can't tell where the new paint is and the old paint was...

That looks very badass! I remember rattle canning my 86 yota ( one color ) and it took 15 or so cans, I couldnt imagine as many coats as you did. My wrists and fingers were toast after that! ;) Switching fingers all the time.

I just fixed some body damage on my drivers side and the primer I used was supposed to be red, but it turned out almost orange.. its taunting me to do the whole truck like that. :D

Did you use any kind of primer sealer after the paint? What grit paper did you use, in what stages, etc? Like 80, to 220, to 400?

Im either going to get a paint job (maaco wants $650), or spend 1/3 of the money, do the prep myself, and do a nice rattle job.

I sanded it with 150 with a random orbital sander then put a primer coat on then the green and pattern. The paint has a kind of texture to it, it is from a rattle can and its flat so I was not worried about a real glossy fine finish. its official of the official for the official rattlecan :):)

First on the list is an 81-85 toyota front axle, then beefy axle shafts/u-joints....then rear chevy springs, then engine pre-drama (replace head gasket, all hoses, timing chain and everything else in there!)....then re-gear front and rear, with lockrights....then add the crawler gear in the existing xfer case....so after all that....add it up, it ain't cheep......and i have not even done brakes yet, or spares....I need a sponsership....

Hey tacodab, just wondering how the paint has held up. What brand of paint did you use? I was considering Aervoe, but I heard it fades quickly. I'm thinking of painting my F-150 camo.

the paint.....for me.... has done very well.
I used the Aervoe paint on mine and have not had much of a problem.
but, I keep in mind that my truck in the garage so it does not get the sun all day every day.
Mike keeps his truck outside all the time, you might as him as well. that is screen name "mike"

Looking good. I always wanted to do a camo flame job. Green all over and black brown and tan for the flame effect. Thought it would be cool for a wheeler or a beater. Never did though. I like yours better I think.

For the Camo paint try Rapco Parts Company in Texas. About 149.00 for 4 gallons with shipping. Cheaper then the can stuff and lasts longer. He is the guy i got my paint from.

funky colored camo patterns are sweet. I did my old taco in the usual green/brown/black and it came out nice, but then i sold it back to toyota and built another truck... painted it with the same pattern but new colors and it came out awesome... or hideous... i can't tell
