View Full Version : Engine cleaning
I'm going to go pressure spray my engine off probably this weekend and was wondering how much I need to worry about the electronics. All my past vehicles had mechanical distributers that I would either cover or not spray near, how easy are these electronic ones to waterlog?
Thanks guys!

I wouldn't do it with power washer on an old truck.
things I've done in the past:
start the engine for like a minute, so the block is warm, but not hot.
take out the battery, cover up the plugs and distributor/carb with tarp and rubber band.
spray some engine bay "Gunk", let it soak few minutes, rinse off with a gentle spray from garden hose.
"dry with a blower", make sure hit all the pockets which can keep water.
blow it over again.
good luck.

Joe...you'll be fine. These new electronics are sealed very well. I make it a habit of leaving my truck running while doing it, but I spray it with a gas powered pressure washer nearly every time I actually clean my truck.
Yeah, that's what I figured, just being cautious.
