Started the maiden wheeling trip of my 05 today.

We left Gilroy and ended up going over Sonora Pass on 108. We left the highway about 1 mile east of the Pass and took a forest road over some ridges(with incredible views.) The road kicked us out at the USMC Mountain Warfare center.

Has anyone done any playing around here? The forest road had all kinds jeep trails heading out in various directions, some were pretty steep.

Bonehead move of the day; We took all kinds of pictures of the mountains, the truck, the girlfriend, the dog, the truck and some more mountains. I hooked it up to the laptop and realized that I left the memory card at home (DOH!)

We are doing a Bodie run with Ca4wd on Saturday, so we are just playing on non technical stuff in the eastern sierras.

BTW gas in Bridgeport, CA $3.95/gal premium. 30 miles away(Topaz Lake) $3.20/gal premium.

I prefer the term '4WD trails'.

Thank Bushes buddies in Texass for that ... never ones to miss an oportunity to cash in on some elses misfortune
wait till we see the profits for this quarter ... its so hard for them to make ends meet

By the way there are several interesting 4wd trails out of Bodie, north from the town then east to Nevada but the scenic way north out of the parking lot thru the mining areas and up to the town of Masonic is a good way. Lots of abandoned mines to explore. Watch for military jets training and racing thru the canyons. They flew almost below us when we were up on a ridge. You could see the pilot in the cockpit. The sonic boom about knocked us over. My truck was rocking.

i did some wheelin around there a few years back... in my hmmwv, standard issue, of course. we drove to the top of hill-9494, what we called it, and most of the "trails" are just fire roads and primitive 2-track. not too challenging from what i remember, but then again, i was in a military vehicle and didn't care if i broke anything.
