Anybody have any tips on what paint remover they prefer? Or technique to get the paint off?

I'll be stripping paint off of a metal gas can, for repainting.

Thanks,

I picked up some spray on kind at the Home Depot the other day that worked very well. Just spray on, wait a bit, then scrap off. Works for me!

Some good stuff I have used comes in a aeresol can. It's called Kleen-Strip Premium paint stripper, comes in a goldish looking can. Works good, took the paint right off my subframe on my bike, and that paint is on there!

What I like about the aerosol is that it actually sticks to the thing you are spraying, instead of running. Once you do that let it sit for a hour, do anoher coat. Then another hour, and another coat. Then after another hour, take a wirebrush to it or scrape and it will fall right off!

I second the Aircraft Stripper. that stuff is badass, eats the hell outta your hands if you dont wear gloves.

Any chemical stripper will work better and faster than mechanical stripping (aircraft stripper is usually fastest). Make sure you thoroughly wash all the stripper off and scuff the raw metal before primering.

Methyl chloride, or if you can get the stuff, methyl bromide. 5 minutes later, paint is goo. Jasco paint and epoxy stripper is methyl cloride, or methaline chloride. One good sniff of this stuff, and you will understand why tweekers are so spun out. HINT... METH..... Wear gloves, and wash any areas it gets on before it burns your skin. Do not wash off into gutters, please. Very toxic stuff.

I've heard a few good things about Jasco today. So i'll head on over to Home Depot Tomorrow!

Now which paint to use for a dark camo green? Any suggestions?

I have a white grayish primer on hand and am waiting to go purchase the paint.

Thanks for all your comments!

Last time I went wheeling, a bunch of my paint came off pretty easily. Does that help?

I;m also looking for a little advice on paint removal. The body shop who fixed my taco after it was rearended got some overspray of what I assume is clearcoat on my rear windows. You can see an outline of a masking tape strip and the masking sheet but also in front of that is overspray. It's not really visible unless the sun hits it right but it's annoying.

How can I get this off without f-ing up the glass?

if its on the glass use a single edge razorblade........ dont waste your time with a cleaner just scrape it off the glass

That is correct. The only other idea is super fine #000steel wool.

denatured alcohol and a razor...try the razor first, if that doesn't work apply some denatured alcohol and scrape off...be careful...

To get the overspray of lie-x they use Denatured Alcohol. Nasty stuff.

Is any of this stuff safe to use around or on powdercoating?? I ask because I'm not sold on the little red and/or blue pinstrip that comes on some of the black steel wheels. I would like to be able to remove it without mucking up the powdercoating.

dont use that arouund that for sure...it'll bubble it up then itll peel...prolly just a single edge blade and a gentle touch should get it off though
