Codeman's bumper is as bad as it looks in person as it looks in photos, I saw it first hand over the weekend.

bumper looks similar to my new sliders, you went vertical with the 2x4 where I went horzontal. there was no "inspiration" on your bumper was there? :D

Actually, no... its a 4" C-channel so I had no choice as to how to orient it, it just turned out that way. Actually its sitting on the floor now since I cut another 8" out of the frame on my current project...
:lmao: I was just teasing you, I knew there was no "inspiration" involved. you know I like giving everyone a hard time.
But the bumper looks good, and the material you used should make it pretty rugid!
like I said, it looks good as does the bed cage. Keep up the nice work.

Yeah I look back at the bumper and to be honest, if I had any more channel I would make a new one, that flux core sucks compared to the gas...bought a HF mig with a bottle last week for the cage project.

I've got a few solid ideas to replace it. Tube, with two tiers something like this.

Or something like gtrotter's with tube protection on the side instead of plate.
Bear, give google sketchup a look. It looks like alot can be done with it but will take some learning. I tried to do a bumper on it for a few hours and gave up.

and its free

I have got autocad here at work. I could give it a try, but I have found it is easier to just build off the actual truck. That really wouldn't take more than a day to complete, finish welding and all.

I'm a novice, so I'm sure it would take a while.

A weekend roadtrip and we could nail that out, novice or not ;)
yea, I have "sketchit" on my computer but hate the crap out of it! I have to agree with Mark in it is a lot easier to build of the actual truck, if you have doubt in design, build first out of either cardboard or conduit tubing then once you are happy with it, transfer it to your actual material.
(yea, I have been off the boards for a while)
Hey Cody,
what's the latest on your bumper plans?

Bought an air/hydraulic bottle jack for the bender so no more pumping :-)

I may have found a cheap one to slap on there for protection if the guy ever contacts me. Other than that I havent made any progress towards a design.
I'd like it to be somewhat like TrailGear design, the base is fairly simple and you can add onto it how you like.
