I need some help, I know diddly about winches and my girlfriends dad's b-day is coming up and we wanted to get a winch for his landcruiser. He's got tons of mods on it already and the damn thing weighs a ton.
We were looking at this one?

Also it already has the ARB bumpers if that helps any.
Thanks for any help guys.

You need to figure out which bumper he has and get him the correct winch for that application. Also, make sure he has a winch bumper or you are wasting your time. Some of the ARB bullbars are NOT winch bumpers.
note: I just looked this up, there are 3 different bumpers for the 60 series.
3210020 - non winch
3210030 - accepts Warn 8274-50 winch
3210040 - accepts Warn M10000 winch
Figure out which bumper he has and you can figure out which winch he will need. Some other brands may fit also depending upon measurements.

This is the info I got:
"Item # 3410030 ARB Bull Bar w/winch mnt. 8/80-1/90 60 SER W/8274"
I just talked to Mana-fre and they said that that the only winch that fits that bumper is the 8274...?
So I have some of the info, but which winch would you recommend?

I think the 8274-50 is odd sized, so it may be the only winch that fits that bumper. With that being said, it may be the most popular winch ever made. I've heard nothing but good things about that winch.

Search around for a better price, just in case...
Don't buy from Man-A-Fre, they are expensive!

Ya know, I was just looking at that winch. What a big bitch it is. It weighs 110 lbs. too! 150 ft. of cable.
Are you sure he will want it? Can his suspension handle the extra 110 lbs. and does he have dual batteries to support the electrical load?
You may be giving him a present that will end up costing him even more $$$ in the long run. Just a thought.

You can't go wrong with an 8274. The newer 8274-50 series have larger motors than the older 8274's. These are the most popular winches being used in the off-road world. I have an 8274 on the front of my rig that is almost 30 years old and it still pulls as strong as a new one.

He's got an OME susupension lift, which he'll prolly need to swap out for some stiffer suspension settings. Already with the ARB bumpers front and back the thing weighs a ton. He does have the dual batteries. We are also looking at getting a synthetic rope for it.
Thanks for all the info!

Synthetic rope is really nice IMO. I've got the Warn 9500Ti and that thing hauls! It's fast and strong. But probably a little big for what you need. Currently I have cable on it but I am going to swap it out for a synthetic I think.

Well, cutting the weight with the synthetic winch line will make a big difference in the weight of the winch. Great gift idea, btw.
GOT COPE?

Yep the 8274 is a classic, it'll look right at home on an ol' cruiser. :)

When its all said and done, the difference between a Warn 9000/ 9500 and a 8274 is going to be about 25lbs.
I am rebuilding an old 8274 to mount on a winchplate for my Tacoma, the 8274s are really a nice winch.
