Figured I might as well document this.

I am picking up a late 80's RX7 next week from a friend. 88 I think, it's a sport model with aluminum hood. $300, sans the motor and coilovers( I get stockers in their place). One crunched fender and shoddy paintjob, otherwise great shape. Pictures to come next week when I get in the garage.

The plan:
paint and body first, nothing fancy but get it to my liking
LS1/T-56 swap, mildly warm up the LS1
RX7 Turbo II rearend, with pinion snubber addition
nice set of coilovers
refinish wheels
spruce up the interior

The goal is to have something I can daily drive and have fun ON THE ROAD with lol.

Sounds like a fun little toy. I don't follow tuners so 'splain the rear end swap to me. Is the turbo rear end stronger or geared better?

Both actually. It's a bigger ring gear, has a better ratio( 4.10), and they come with a limited slip. They bolt right in, and I can pick them up for a $100 or less. The snubber just helps it live lol.

Well, got alot of things pulled today.
Motor/trans
coilovers
tail lights
radiator
some trim
driveshaft

All in all successful, going to start prepping the chassis for the LS1/T-56 this week. Then I need to find an LS1-T-56 lol.

Well, looks I am picking up a 4l60e this weekend, and then hopefully getting a 98 LS1 out of a Vette shipped this week. Still need to decide on the kit I want to use to bolt it in, just have to see. Went and looked at a family friends' 91 RX7 convertible that has an LS1/auto in it. Very quick, just not my taste in rims. Looks like he is going to sell me his set of BBS factory wheels for cheap. They weight only 11 lbs each, which is good. Here's some pics.

Decided I didn't want to drive 4 hours each way for a transmission, so I passed on that deal.
I am sending money tomorrow for a low mileage( 54k) 2002 Trans Am LS1 w/ the 4l60e. It is stock, but in 02 they had the LS6 manifold, and a couple other niceties such as good flowing exhaust manifolds( nearly header performance-stock).

I am still on the fence for the swap kit I will use. On one hand, Granny's Speed Shop has a complete kit. I like the Ronin kit because of craftsmanship. Thoughts/Ideas?

and that is the only progress for me, other than cleaning, etc. on the car.

Well, bad news. I was tearing the rest of the car today, and found major rust in places there shouldn't be rust. I am now borderline on if I want to swap the car or not. Maybe find a cleaner car?

Also, I picked up a turbo II rearend today, and hopefully the engine/trans show up soon.

Got the engine and trans today. Got to poking around, and I managed to get one of the rare(somewhat) LS6 blocks. Everything seems good, just need to order the install kit.

Well, talking to a guy in Kentucky about picking up a '90 RX7, that was used in the 24 hrs of lemons. Has a cage, just gotta see how much he wants as a roller. It needs a door, which I already have, so basically it will be a swap job. No other updates, just the typical b.s. that comes with working on an older vehicle.

Contemplating just axe-ing the project. Rust is more than I care to mess with, and I should be able to come out money ahead on the whole deal. If I can get what I want out of all the parts I have accumalated(sp?), I might just throw that into the 09, and have an even better truck. IFFFFF I do that, truck is getting bobbed, and some sort of front suspension alteration. :xdevil:

Engine and trans are for sale. I found MORE rust while trying to drill holes for the transmission mount. The main center beam tying the two sides together is sketchy to say the least. I will be parting the car out shortly.

Other than a branch attatcking my truck, I came out ok. BIG branch landed right in the bed. Less then a mile from my house, they had over softball sized hail and tornadoes.

Yeahhhh...but it's not the terminator Cobra. I have itching for an 03-04 Cobra since they came out, and I finally in a spot to afford it. Kinda want to get one before I wind up a family man.
