Hey guys im having diff fluid leak out from my front diff. Its leaking from were the CV meets the axle. You can take the part of the cv that joins and move it maybe a cm left to right on both sides..Can somebody maybe explain what this could be?? Thank you
oil seal needs to be replaced, most likely. other causes are nicks/scratches from not being careful when replacing a CV. The first is the most common and easy to fix. The 2nd can mean replacing the diff entirely.
they are oil seals not just an 'O' ring priced around $15 from the dealer
when you install them make sure they seat flush with the outer edge of the diff at that point...not all the way in
block of wood and a hammer...carefully.
remove old one with seal puller (cheap tool from auto zone or Kragen, etc) or VERY carefully with a regular claw hammer.
Make sure NOT to scratch the inside of the diff where that seal goes...it will really leak.
Also be careful not to dislodge the little metal spring that is behind the rubber seal.
