I've never re-booted CVs before...I have OEM Toyota kits with clamps. Is this the gadget I want?

That tool might work, sort of. The end nippers the other fellow mentioned would be a far better bet and also work pretty well as end nippers.

Inner and outer clamps take the same tool.

The correct tool has 3 moving parts. The two outer jaws crimp together and the center plate pushes out to flatten the crimp. The resultant crimp from this type of tool will better resist becoming un-crimped.

my boot kit came with clamps that you just pull tight, fold back over itself, and then fold little tabs down over it and cut off the extra...

Why not do it the easy way and use hose clamps instead, they work the same and you dont have to deal with one time use clamps...
