Hey fellas, just wondering if anybody here has gone from a fullsize truck down to a mid size? Ive been thinking about sellin my silverado and buyin a Tacoma for the last year or so but I can't make my mind up. I'm 6'2" and 240 pounds, so I'm worried I'll feel cramped. But I can't deny the fact that I have the Toyota bug lol. So has anybody here ever been in my shoes? Thanks in advance.
I would see if the Dealer will give you an extended test drive so you can drive one for a couple days, that way you will be able to see if you will be comfy or not.
My work truck is an f150 and then I have my 02 taco dc. I don't ever feel any different getting into my taco now and it has been six months, of course I have had it since i could drive lol...only difference is when you stretch your arms out in the 150 they dont touch both sides lol. I am 6 5 240...o ya u can't cram as much junk in it either for a trip
I went from a gmc 1500 down to a single cab tacoma, I am 6'0 200 and I love my single cab tacoma man I can get in and out of places that I couldnt even think of going with the fullsize. Sometimes I do feel a little cramped but I have an 02 if you go for the bigger sized 05 and up you wont have a problem, probably wouldnt have a problem in anything under 05 either. Its all personal preference dont get something your not gonna like. I will keep my single cab but get another full size just for towing purposes
Ok What about the payload differences? Has anyone had any issues there? The heaviest thing I haul anymore is a four wheeler or anything that'll fit on my 6x12 trailer. Since I've moved to the city I don't haul much more than the wife's supply list from lowes lol.
Well they are not really great for hauling i think the 2005 v6 can supposedly tow up to 6000 or 7000 but i would never tow that much weight with one of these trucks. If all your towin is a four wheeler or boat youll be fine. I am runnin 4.88 gears in the diffs along with 33x12.50 tires and tow my four wheeler with a 6x12 trailer also. I also pull a 17 foot fiberglass hydra sport bass boat but not very far because i have the 2.7
For long road trips, my full-size is much more comfortable. The stock Tacoma seats (at least the 1st gen) suck for anything 3+ hours. For everything else, can't ask for anything more from my Tacoma.
The truck I would probly get would be ext cab, v6. Undecided on the trans but probly a manual.
