hey guys!
i have 3.91s in my 2.7, have 225/75 and am going to 33 10.50s and was wanting to know which gears you think i should go to?
i know its going to be either 4.10s for 4.56s
the thing is, i dont wheel a whole lot (only at work coz im a surveyor) and i dont want extremely high rpms when im on the highway...
so, what do yall think?

I'm going to say 5.29s, I think they are a great gear. Don't fear the gear, 5.29s will make your 2.7L engine feel stronger with the 33"s. So if it were mine I'd get 5.29s and be happy.

Hehe...that's got to be a joke...
I just regeared my 2.7 with 32s from 3.58 to 4.56. It was pretty noticable around town but REALLY makes a difference on the freeway. I don't have to downshift as much on inclines and can pass people when needed. My RPMs are at 2800 at 70 mph.
If you're going with 33s, I'de go with 4.56 (maybe 4.88?) This topic has been covered many times and it comes down to two things:
1. How much you mind having higher rpms on the freeway
2. How much you care about your mpg.
Why would you spend all the money to regear and only go from 3.91 to 4.10? Oh yea, you probably already know this, but if your getting it done through a shop, bring in the 3rd members and you'll save a bunch of money on labor. And get your gears through PORC (one of our sponsors), mention you're a TTORA member and get a decent discount.

No joke, If it were my truck I'd go with 4.88 or 5.29. You are right he needs to look at how he drives the truck before regearing.
If you are worried about mpg then you really should be lifting your truck.
If you go with 5.29s you will never have to worry about regearing again if you ever go with a taller tire.
Like I said don't fear the gear.

The 2.7 is a strong 4 cyl. engine. You'd be allright with 4.56 gears, but 4.88's are the general rule of thumb with 33" tires.

thnx guys!
yeah my original thought was 4.56, but a few guys at work said that 4.10s are good too (most of them have stock ford trucks, so they prolly dont really know ahole lot, just sayin what gears they have in their trucks).
Yeah, i just need to find a decent shop to do the work :)

im thinkin 4.88s will be alil to close, let alone those 5.29s
like i said my wheeling is minimal, as a surveyor im mostly on the highway and roads

4:56--You'll be happier in the long run.

try finding some tocama thirds on the main site w/ the gears you want. it would be A LOT cheaper and you could just swap em out. Be smart about it and make sure you get the nonTRD 8.4" third (unless you have a TRD, but given the ratio,i don't think so) for the rear and whatever you guys run in the front. you might score a locker too. it's a good, clean, economical way of doing it.
it'll be harder w/ the 4.56 tho.

I have 4.56's in my 95xcab with the v6 and 32's and I would kill for more gear. I recomend at least the 4.88's. But if it were me I'd go 5.29's!
