Greetings all. Just thought I'd say hello. I've become the proud owner of an '83 pickup recently and have been a lurker of the board for a while. I'm also a member of the GA Cruisers.

Here is the new trail truck as it sits..

I'm going to try to document all of the buildup here or on Pirate or somewhere. Look forward to meeting everyone eventually. I know I have met a few of you guys at Beasley Knob a couple months back.

just some FYI, here is the current DD rig:

I'll be looking to get some of the chapter and/or national decals too next time there is a run.

Nice clean 83. Whose cruiser is that in the background?

Not sure. It's over at 4x4 Customs - Patrick Wilson's shop. We're going to try to button up the 20/22r hybrid buildup tomorrow..then crossover steering ..all this week before a shake down run at Stonewall Falls

I don't know if you know this but you are going to need the minimum of 3" of lift to clear the crossover. Also in a few monthes I should have a weber that I'm going to be selling for cheap since it needs a rebuilt.

This is gonna seem weird but was that pic taken with the land crusier over at the apartments behind parkaire off lower roswell?

IIRC the truck has a weber, or atleast when i sold it to him it did. how is everything coming on it?

That pic was taken over by 4x4 customs on Stone Mtn Hwy in Snelleville.

Yeah it had a 32/36 weber when I bought it from Justinh. It's been slow progress due to my schedule. I'm putting a 20r head on it to try and get a bit more out the the old 22r without having to do a big motor swap.

As for the crossover, some semblence of a lift is installed currently. The tires on it now are 32x12.50x15s . I know 33's would fit and what I've seen it has either a 3 or 4" lift on it already, so I don't think the crossover will be much of a problem.

yeah i sold it after my wife started back to school and cut her hours down to about 10-15 a week. i have zero time or money right now to build it and by the time i do i won't be able to wheel a two seater. i regret it, just as i regret all things i sell. :)

I had to charm him a bit by dangling a carrot made of greenbacks. When I get it up and running I'll try to bring it by. And maybe if you have a weekend when you could get away for a few hours ( I know it's hard to "want" to get away from the baby) maybe you could go with us on a ride

yeah, it is getting harder with school winding down and only 3 classes left, i really have the itch, plus it has been so long since i have been wheeling. i thought i had found a samurai up in Tennessee but i just can't see paying $700 for a rust bucket when the last one i had was nearly mint and cost $450. I am waiting for the right deal to roll around, most likely on a samurai, i can toss a kid's racing seat in the back when the time comes.

yeah, I may have to go ahead and lift it up now instead of waiting like I thought. I may not even do the cross over just yet, we'll see.

Get a spare J arm if you wheel it.. I think stomper has a spare.

looks good man, what size are those tires? did you change the springs out?

4inT100
02-22-2006, 08:56 PM
yeah, I had to change the springs to get the crossover steering - They're 4" Pro-comps. The tires are Interco's 34x10.50x15 LTBs.

did you put a gear reduction in it or does it turn the tires good stock?

ATLRoach
04-01-2007, 07:23 AM
I believethe only he has reduction in the diffs as 5.29s

4inT100
04-01-2007, 07:43 AM
Yeah, I've just got 5.29s in the back. The tires are only 34s so they're not that big. Plus, with the increased hp in the motor it runs pretty quick. I'm looking to do a crawl box, but the money has more important places to go...like bills.

Mitchell Designs
04-01-2007, 08:39 AM
yea but you think about it, you go from a 31/30 ish tire and goto a 34 thats a sugnificant change and i supose that it has the 22r motor in it and thats not that powerfull of a motor even the 22re isnt that brute that can cause a loss of power when trying to turn the heavy tires over if the motor wasnt beefed uplike u said

4inT100
04-01-2007, 12:40 PM
22r? Ha I laugh at those now. But yeah, it HAD a plain 22r..now it's a hybrid 20/22

Wow John.... I wanted to herculine the inside of mine... but is it really that glossy? I want like the flat black look... I guess it will get that way over time?

And that is a heck of a mounting system for your CO2. lol

4inT100
12-19-2007, 08:22 AM
well, using the herculiner you end up with a rubbery bumpy texture. It is a little glossy, but some of it is from the flash.

I didn't feel like cutting the long ends of the ratchet straps (there are two holding the tank horizontally and vertically). Eventually I figure I'll have a more hard mount for it.

04 Rocko Taco
12-19-2007, 08:33 AM
I think I want to see your herculiner in person, and then I may just save up and have someone Line-X it...

4inT100
12-19-2007, 08:40 AM
The potential cost of Line-X ruled this out for me. taking out the seat, carpeting, that nasty asphalt stuff and rust was my main concern. That way I see what's under there. Plus If ever I mess it up, I can fix it quickly.

after doing my best tiny asian man impersonation, I have finally gotten bucket seats!!! woohoo!! The ammo can "console" is only mocked into place. I will clean and paint it before final install.
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h9/Adontain/000_0132.jpg

Anyone got suggestions comments on the placement of the extinguisher? It's only sitting on the dash for now. My though was to move the CB speaker lower, sorta behind the "console" and replace it with the exting.

Cool console and seats... Where'd you get the seats?

Slap that extinguisher on the roll bar, drivers side cause if that big ol CB catches fire you want to:

1) Get out of the cab (probably a rolling dismount)
2) Catch up with the truck to get the FE out of the back
3) Put the fire out, if the left rear tire didn't run over your foot while getting to the FE.

.....or put it between the seats as mentioned :D

They're Kyle's seats.

CB's been doing fine for the past year. I see no reason for it to randomly go kablooie, but there's always a first.

console is an ammo can I got somewhere (I have 5 others in my garage and three others as storage in the truck bed).

I'm looking to get some 6x9s and putting behind the seats if I can get a radio mounted again.

Ah, just ribn' ya about your radio, it's a whopper!! I used to know a guy that had a CB base station in his K5 Blazer, he had the desk top type mic and all. He could put the mic between the seats and and talk like it was hands free... crazy!

Cool. Man we need to meet up and wheel some time. I'd like to see that rig of yours, I've always liked those year trucks.
Is that an All Pro or Sky tcase brake?

4inT100

I think it's all-pro. There isn't much difference except that sky one has a bit of a "skid plate"
