Just a quick note for those with a not so crisp shift in the their manual tacomas. I bought my 97 tacoma with 82k miles on it and thought it shifted ok, although a bit notchy. I switched the fluid to redline mt90 shortly after getting the truck and have put 50k miles on it. It recently started pushing out of third gear when i would shift and apply the gas. A quick search revealed a common maintenance issue with our trucks. Many of you are aware of this, so please excuse my message if it's a repeat, this is more of a notice for those who are new to this forum and their toyota tacoma.
I just replaced my shift lever seat and cap on my w59 trans and it has never shifted like this since i've had my truck. It literally feels like new. The old seat was starting to crumble. The process is simple and cheap. If your truck has over 100k miles, do this simple maintanance, you won't be sorry. I used this link as an instructional.
