280,000mi, needs: new diff carrier assembly, 2 cat converters, rear brakes tie rod ends..and has a slowly growing body rust issue.. $6600 to have it all fixed..I love this truck and am having a hard time deciding what to do...also, just got new tires about 300miles ago...
maybe this mechanic is trying to rake me over the coals? Cats are 2300 for 2.. rust is not critical now but will need to be fixed at some point. door seams, rocker panels, and a bit in the bed. thanks for the info. I may take my truck to another place for a second opinion.
Sounds like they are selling you OEM cats which cost a small fortune. Did you take it to Toyota? Time for a second opinion in either case. Hit up a local muffler shop instead on the cats. Should be about $600 OTD for both installed.
Yep. Took it to Toyota for the diagnosis. I am in South Central Texas and dont know anybody trustworthy to take it to down here; obviously not safe at the dealer either.
Anyways, great to hear there may be other options for me to investigate.
Time and space is my issue. I'm working down here in Texas, staying in motels and whatnot. but I hear ya! I'm alright at taking stuff off and putting it back on but definitely not a mechanic. The frame was brand new 4 years ago so it's still good to go. Which is also why I really am hesitant to get rid of it. It would be a shame to give up on it when it needs me the most.
Thanks
