I got a set of new tires on Nov 8 and they threw in a free alignment well nothings free but you know what I mean, and I know that the boot on the steering rack can get twisted sometimes in the aftermath from the alignment. My dumbass never thought to look so I now have boot on the drivers side that has torn at the collar, and I am not sure how long its been like that, there was a thin film of grease on the inner tie rod. I went to the autozone and got some grease this morn and loaded it up then put a hose clamp on the boot and its held all day. My question is if I check for play in the morning and do not have any would you all just replace the boot and load it with grease or would you go ahead and change out the inner tie rod and pay for another alignment?
This is correct. It is a very important boot to keep in good condition and free of cuts or rips since dust and water intrusion will cause the rack seals to fail.
I had a small cut in my passenger side TR boot,
likely from a branch the stood up and bit it.
was lazy... so I used some black rtv and sealed it up...
still holding after a year
The only reason there would be any fluid in the boot...
is if the rack's end seals blew out.
and the boots filled up with atf.
a small amount of grease resides within the itre joint
but no packing of the boot.
Just a dust cover as was said previous
