I'm new to this board. I've got an '05 Tacoma with BFG AT ko 265-75-16, had some rocker rails wielded on. I've been out a few times, I'd like to wheel with more Tacomas to get more ideas. I'm a member with Suncoastflatlanders, they like alot of mud and water. My '05 is allergic.

Welcome! This is the place to be if you wanna learn more about your rig and hang out with some cool guys in Toyotas! We just had an AWSOME 3-day campout in souther ONF with a great turnout of about 11 rigs! There will be another one in late January and maybe a run in november. Keep checking back to see details. Later man.

Hey Nick,

We were riding some powerline trails in ONF just outside of Deland. You'll recognize the trail from my pics in the other thread. There's a nice off camber area to play in out there.

At a minimum, I'd recommend 3" of lift and 32" tires to get through the water crossings we encountered. A high lift jack and a quality tow rope would be good things to have.

Like Brian said a lift is nice but for most of the stuff there are bypasses to get by. I'm stock height and did ok, a lift would be nice but you can do alot with a stock truck and decent mud tires.

THATS OUTSIDE OF DELAND??? i have no idea where that is, i wish i did though. it kinda looks like this place i used to ride my dirbike out in lake county (well at least the sandy part did, not the water). where is this place?

edit: if thats all the Ocala National Forest, thats like an hour or two from deland right?

Yup, take 44 west out of Deland and make a right onto 42. Around a mile down 42 start looking for an unmarked trail on your right. Take that and make a left onto the powerline trail, it's all back there.

The southeastern tip of ONF is just a 10 miles from the center of Deland :) .

nickcuban
10-31-2005, 07:11 PM
is there a power transformer almost immediatly on the left and just follow the trail back to really wide powerlines and alake type thing? or is that one just past a graveyard.

omg i had no idea the ONF was 10 miles out, well the southern most tip anyway.

Not sure, I was looking at my gps. I know I made the convoy take 2 u-turns on 42 before we finally found it, lol.

haha, i meant was the power thing like 50 feet inside the trail, yeah its easy to miss trails out that way cuz tehy are very unmarked (at least the few i went to with my dirtbike) damn i wanna go out there again. i do remember lots of huge puddles, but i had my trusty ol XR250 and that bad boy could pull through about anything.

i wish someone else lived in deland so that we could randomly go one day and no one would have to go way out of their way to get out here

Thanks for the reply, ONF is a bit of a ride for me.

But if gas prices keep falling...... after they said on the NEWS "Oil Companies" made their biggest profit since ...... well, I don't know how long they said , but maybe it will shame them into lowering the prices for gas.

In the meanwhile if anyone is wheeling around the TampaBay area, let me know.

We hijacked your thread Harry sorry about that  .

There's got to be more members in the Tampa area, hopefully they'll see this and reply.

As far as wheeling goes, mud, water and sand is pretty much it in Florida. I can understand why an 05 Taco would be allergic ;) .

I'm from New Tampa and am a SCFL member too. I don't wheel with them to much since all that goes on is show n shines and B.S. I met a lot of my good wheeling buddies their but none of us are active anymore. Unfortunetly I have been unable to get with the TTORA a group cause everytime they schedule a damn ride I have stupid work stuff going on.

Anyway I am gonna try to hit up richloam this month for a night ride I'll post when it happens your welcome to come. Time to get that '05 dirty. You are living in the wrong state if your truck has alergies. LOL

If you need any help with working on your truck hit me up I can help. I also have a great friend who is an awesome fabricator. If you need bumpers or sliders or anything let me know.

Hi Nullifier,

I've seen you around, I like the set-up on your truck.
Time & Money, and I'm short on both right now. Although I'm looking for a tool box to put my gear in. Nobody has one out yet that I can find. I'm about to see if someone can make one for me.

I used to have a 94' YJ, I was always changing the fluids in the rearend or tranny everytime I splashed in a puddle.

Richloam Hmmm.... I swam through there a few times.

See ya out there

Hey Shawn Richloam in north of Dade City and east of Brooksville. Near 301 and Highway 50. Lots of tight wet trails... Oh wait yea trails....LOL. if good local spot where you don't get harrased by rangers. Endless trail system.

I usually go for night rides on the weekends there I'll post up when I get a date together.

that sounds good, should be but an hour away from me. Guess I better get off my ass and get my truck back together! Definetly let me know when your heading out there. I used to always go out at night when I lived in southern florida so that's fine with me.

I live right in Tampa. Not much to wheel as far as I know in the area. A while back I tried getting us tampa bay area folks together at the Bruce B Downs Hooters. Only me and 1 other member showed up. But I think it's time us urban pavement pounders get together and ooo...aww at the trucks.

I remember that, I was still in south florida at the time or I would have showed up. I"m going to work on mine either this weekend or next weekend and try to get it back together after that I'll be running around more.

well since a lot of us can't make the campout for one reason or another, maybe we should have a Day trip to Richloam? or a Hooters gathering... see who shows up this time.

I could make hooters a lot easier since the trucks still not done. I did try to get hubs for it tonight and was going to build anther driveshaft but they said they can't get hubs at the parts store so I'll have to look into those some more.

well I don't really wanna take my truck out again until I rip the Hubs apart on my D44 and upgrade to the new spindles and all. mainly b/c of the grease having water in it, and not sure if it currently has water. So a sunday night hooters sounds good me and my truck's hubs. just need to figure out which sunday would work for everyone. 20th, 27th?

I agree ONF is way too far for me...Maybe we can get another croom ride in b4 the holidays. Are you going to the SCFL toy drive?

TacomaHarry
11-17-2005, 03:16 AM
Brad,

I thought the Toy Drive was on 12/17 a Saturday, now I see it's on 11/30 a Wednesday, I have my Bowling league on wednesdays. So I guess i can't make that one.

Croom sounds like a good idea. Not sure about going before the holidays. I've got most of the weekends filled already. Maybe we can a few Toyotas from here to go too. :D. And I'll see if my Kid can make it with his Jeep for entertainment. He's good for changing a tire or getting his out of an odd stuck.

Are you going to the SCFL club picnic on 12/11. It's a really nice park there going to. I was there kayaking last weekend.

Harry

Stealing my thread back. ;)

search State Forest, Wildlife Management Areas.

It's not a place to be extreme. It's a nice Sunday ride through the trails and we've spotted a few deer in the woods some with little ones, and other wildlife, and there are a few little play areas. I was able to take my stock 05' Tacoma through. There is some mud up there, I believe at the north part of the map. If anyones interested maybe we could go sometime. Brad's been there and wanted to go again. When we get a group together I'll make extra copies of the map I have that I've marked "points of interest"

Get some good offroad tires. And possibly a lift to fit bigger tires than you can stock. If your TRD package is the real deal with the electric locking rear diff then you are already ahead of the game.
