i finally found out what is wrong with the 85. timing chain ate itself. hopefully thats all. i called a dealership to see what it would cost to fix it.... $1900. on the plus side though my buddy from work said he'd fix it for a trade for my xr 200r. pretty sweet deal, aside from parting from the beast bike. but ill be wheelable soon. finally.

Thought any about converting to the double row or at least the metal backed guides?

I would check out the LC Engineering chain conversion kit. It's a very nice upgrade from the stock one and not hard to put on. Took me a few hours to swap everything out.

As long as it didnt eat into the water jacket your good to go. For $1700 you can get a new long block set up that includes a new timming chain.

I would go with the Engine builder kit it comes with metal guides instead of the plastic ones. its the first one herhttp://www.engnbldr.com/toyota_performance.htme
