It looks like Toyota is serious about getting the FJ into the hands of off-road enthusiast and not having it become just another street queen like the H2/H3.

Toyota Targets Enthusiasts in Marketing Campaign for 2007 FJ Cruiser
Date Posted 11-08-2005

ATLANTA — Toyota kicked off its marketing campaign for the 2007 FJ Cruiser in the Mojave Desert following the SEMA show last week. It was the first of a series of events aimed at influential off-roaders, Inside Line has learned.

"We will do no TV advertising," said James Farley, Toyota Division vice president of marketing. "We will only focus on the enthusiast."

Farley said the company has hired "close to 50 off-road instructors" who will conduct a series of events throughout the country in the coming months as Toyota introduces the latest iteration of the roughneck FJ40 to a group of new consumers. The company is turning to over 30 Land Cruiser clubs in the U.S. to come up with participants for its FJ Cruiser off-road programs.

"Many people don't know what the FJ40 is," Farley said. "We'll spend all of our money establishing the FJ Cruiser's credibility as an off-road machine. We won't race [it] before we do rock crawling [and] mud and trail activities."

The 2007 FJ Cruiser goes on sale in February.

What this means to you: Toyota shows it understands the rule of the off-road: If you don't have authenticity, you don't have anything when it comes to vehicles like the FJ Cruiser.

I had heard that, and thought no way, there has to be some sort of ad campaign. Guess I was wrong. This is an bold and interesting move by Toyota. Hopfully it works.

If it's mainly going to be marketed to the 4x4 enthusiasts, where the hell is the Solid Front Axle and or Locker/lockers located at  ???...lol!! I like the functionality of it somewhat like the interior option with the rubber flooring that is handy but other then that looks like a another Mall Queen to me..just my :2cents: I will buy an older FJ-80 with factory lockers!! that is a real cruiser :)

wow, that's pretty cool. I can't believe they're not gonna advertise it though???? Kinda odd, but then again, I guess so many ppl are online now and so many ppl already know about it, they'll have enough TRUE customer base. Instead of a buncha lil girlies in HS gettin daddy to buy them the latest SUV..... I just hope they don't make em' in 2WD b/c then they just really F-ed up if you ask me.

I completely agree, being a FJ-40 guy for a while now, and currently owning a 73 FJ-40 with 38x16R15 TSL's I am completely dissapointed and almost disgusted in Toyota for building an "FJ-40" with IFS! WTF! Especially if they want to market it to wheeling enthusiasts! Where's the front and rear offset diffs, factory lockers, super flexy suspension? I'm gonna have to wave the :bs: flag on this one! Its a neat rig and all but it's totally a sell out of what the FJ-40 stands for!

I fineally found the post on CT that I got bashed for saying the same thing I did here... Blah blah blah, comfort, etc! It's an FJ-40 its a utility vehicle, grrr, the new one makes me so mad! :soapbox:

The FJ is not a Land Cruiser.

Dont tell Toyota that with all their links to "Land cruiser heritage" and whatnot on the site, they may not slap a Land Cruiser badge on it but the resembalance and sales tactics are there and thats just as sickening to me!

The FJ is not a Land Cruiser.
Some would argue that a 100 isn't really either... ;)

I have been told that we are probably getting one after the hype (and mark-up) dies down.

There is going to be a writeup in toyota trails january issue I believe. They took one across the rubicon. I'm not crazy about them myself, but I think it's at least a step in the right direction. If I had a need for another small suv besides my 4 runner and my fj40 I might consider buying one.
