I was just messing around with SolidWorks and I drew some plans for replacement Dog-Bones.

I dunno how common it is for these to brake but both of mine are and it costs about 20.00 each plush shipping to replace the latches.

This would be a more cost effective means of repairing the latches rather than replacing them. I estimate that I could make two of these for around $5 if I don't do all of the fancy radiuses, chamfering and filleting.

A friend of mine also pointed out that they would be quite easy to brake if a theif wanted in and you had your windows open. All they would have to do is give the window a little yank to brake the plastic pieces.

Lets see if I loaded the attachment correctly.

If a theif wants in and is will to rip off a window, I would bet they are willing to break one.

Keeping the side windows closed is much less of an invitation, too.

Regardless, that's a nifty little design/schematic you came up with. Post up with pics and such if you make and install 'em on your truck.

The whole point of these is to make a cheap replacement that is more durable than stock.

Not a security feature. I just mentioned an observation a friend made and felt that it was an additional benifit to what I mentioned above.

Fact is, nothing will stop some scumbag from molesting a vehicle. But additional layers of defense will slow them down and force them to draw attention to themselves while tampering with a vehicle.
Just thought I would clarify. :kewl:

Thanks for the constructive criticism.

Let me know how it goes. I'd be interested. Both mine are busted too. Haven't opened them in well over a year.

Thats good, I wouldn't want to hear about your truck getting stolen or then window being broken by a theif. Good idea about it fixing the stock ones, although I have never had a probelm with them.

If you make them and they work, I'd buy a set from you.
