I would like a cookie. I'm replacing the engine with one of lower miles. Is there anything you guys would recommend replacing while having the shop replacing the motor? BTW: I got a motor with 65,000 miles on it for $1000. Sound like a deal?

Monte

I can get the tranny and tranfer case for an extra $500. Should I pick those up and keep them around just in case? I thought it sounded like a good deal. Auto tranny.

Be wary of such "good deals". I recently got my replacement engine (50K miles, dont belive it though), and was promised that it was the right engine. Well, it was the right engine, but the other parts were wrong; it was shipped for a 4x2..... So, if you can see it first, so much the better..

I can't tell from the photo which engine but the 3.4L engines are prone to throw rods and window the block. I've seen a couple of pretty nasty ones down at my local dealership. You could see daylight right through the blocks. The 5VZ engine was designed with a light rotating mass for fuel economy. When you design real light like that, strength is sacrificed so adding power adders has to be done with care. I think those rev limiters are programmed into the ECU for a very good reason. There is not a whole lot in the way of over design in that engine like there is with the older Supra engines that were more or lest built to be hot rodded.

What engine do you have and what happened.

I have the 3.4 in my 1997 T-100 auto. I was simply doing a doughnut on ice and it started sputtering and running really rough. Drove it 1/4 mile home and noticed oil all over the driveway.
