steven,
Neilfab mostlikely won't be bending tube until after the first of the year. So the shock hoops aren't in the cards for me but I would be happy to make the drag link.

Neil I'm not going to be doing the SAS till Jan or Feb. I'll take you up on the drag link. But if I sell the KTM it'll all happen VERY SOON!
I see you daughter wakes up early too. LOL

Man I wish Emily was like that, She's up by 0530 or sooner on the weekends and doesn't like to get up on the weekends.
This is my rear 3rds problem! :(
The Toyota Master Tech said that my rear ARB is what caused my gears to eat each other up. He showed me that there are two spots that gears get really tight. It does look like something hit the ARB carrier once, so this could cause the tight spots. This also tells why the first owner had to change the 4.56s twice, which I've always wondered why. The toy master tech is going to set it up with less backlash which makes the not as tight. This will be a TEMP fix so I can wheel it untill I do the SAS. After the SAS I'm going to have Zuk set up the front and rear 3rds. We've been swaping emails talking about this and how to fix it. At first Zuk didn't want to mess with the ARB but now he said he would do it. I have qoutes for him to do all the set up with me just sending him the 3rds. He has the gears and master install kits on hand.

Me and Drew put my ARB 3rd but in with Drew's old 4.56 gears. To fix the problem with the tight spots the Toyota Tech set the the back lash alittle loser. I can't tell a diff but the Runner drives fine with no vibs.
My clutch is about GONE and my rear main seal is leaking really good. So the trans will be coming out really soon and the Runner will get a new clutch but I haven't decided what clutch to go with yet. More then likely it'll be a Marlin HD unit.
I'm not really sure what size I'll be going with. The guy I got the springs from said he was running 39.5" swampers with just the 44044s, a 3" body lift, and a little fender triming. I may just end up runner some 37" Goodyear Hummer tires or MT/Rs. The price of the two are really diff, I can get a set of Hummer 37"s with 80 to 90% life left for around $500 and MT/Rs are $211 each (SamsClub).

This an update on my SAS and it isn't good news.
I posted this on pirate where Jeff was last active and it tales the whole story of what happen. So for all others out there like me that buy stuff of the net BECAREFUL!
I bought a Marlin SAS hanger kit and U bolt flip kit off of the Marlin BBS forums. I sent him a cashiers check on the 2nd of Dec 2005 and after a few weeks of not getting the parts I had the Marlin BBS Admin contact him cause he wouldn't PM me back. He PM'd me the next day saying that the shipping was too much and he was going to return my check. I waited a few more weeks and I haven't heard from Jeff or seen the check. I went to the bank and they told me that the check was cashed on the 12th of Dec. I had Marlin's Admin get me his email address and I sent him a email but haven't heard from Jeff yet. I searched his email address and got some post he's made here on pirate, so I searched for all post made by Jeff and I see that his last log in here was on 5 Jan 2002 1220pm. I've sent him a PM and posted on his newest post here but still haven't heard from Jeff.
His Marlin BBS ID is 86toyota37 and Pirate4x4 ID is jdsamurai55
The address I mailed the check to,
Jeff Danberg
7611 230th st SW #71
Edmonds, WA 98026
The link to the post for the parts I bought from Jeff.

I dont do Paypal. Had problems with it before.... soo... Cashier check will do.
How much do you want for this? SAS and U bolt flip kit. Id say $235 for them.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ALlright, Ill start wrapping up the items... and wait for the cashier check to get here... as soon as i get it... ITs going to be shipped out. Thur UPS. sound good?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey, Sorry sorry for the delay... YEs I got it, But Im returning it back to you. The shipping is too much. And I just got out of hospital with a bad infection. That's why I wasnt able to access the e mail.
Sorry for all of the misunderstandings. Ill let you know when I send it out.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That was my last conact with Jeff. I really hope that this is just a misunderstanding and Jeff has a good reason for cashing the check after telling me that he was going to return it. I'm in the Marine Corps so I have to save up for 4wd parts and look for them used here and there. I know I would have only saved $30 over buying them new from Marlin but ever $ adds up when you're on a tight budget.

You're right I'll pay for everything with paypal from now on. I was too trusting since I've bought all kinds of stuff off of ebay and online forums. I was just to much in a rush to get the SAS parts for my Runner and jumped on it.

The hasn't logged onto Pirate or Marlin since I started emailing, PMing, and calling him (not sure if its his # since I looked it up on the net). I went over to the WA TTORA site and asked for help and they have only been somewhat helpful. I wanted someone that live in his area for go to the address I mailed the check to and knock on the door and ask for Jeff Danberg if its him then ask for my money or parts. The WA TTORA guys don't seem to have any balls since I've only gotten one person to offer to do that and that was after I said I'd give them $100 of the money. Then I get a PM from one of them telling my that I'm being childish cause I called Jeff a SOB and POS once. I'm going to call the local police dept today but I'm sure they aren't going to do anything since it was only $235. This has really screwed up my plans on my SAS cause now I don't when I'm going to get the money to do it. I don't want to sale the dirt bike to get it so I'll just has to watch the SAS guys flex their axles and get pissed at Jeff Danberg. Jeff had better be glad that I'm stuck in FL and he's in WA cause I would have been kicking his door down three weeks ago. :soapbox:

Looks like I'll the 1st SAS'd 2nd Gen 4Runner in the FL TTORA group.
My Runner is at Neil's along with most of the SAS parts and the rest are in the mail.
It'll be set up like this,
Front
TrailGear hanger
Hybird Rear Toyota leaf springs
NeilFab shock hoops
Bils. 5125 12" travel
Mix matched HighSteer AllPro arms, Budbuilt tierod, TrailGear draglink, Sky's 3/4" drop pitman arm, and Neil's relocating the gear box forward.
85 Axle with V6 Yukon cryo'd 5.29s ARB airlocker (Long's 30spling Birfs later)
Custom drive shaft
Rear
Sky's Chevy spring hanger
Chevy springs
Bils. 5125 12" travel
NeilFab upper shock mount
Cryo'd Yukon 5.29s with a Detroit locker
Custom drive shaft
Will be riding on new 36" Goodyear RT-IIs mounted on recentered humvee double beadlocks by usa6x6.com.
Odds and ends,
Custom mounted ARB bumper with a T-Max 10,000lbs winch
Trail Gear sliders
Custom swing out tire carrier with matching spare tire/wheel.
Relocated gas tank under the rear of the Runner
Later on do the road,
Dual T-Cases with Budbuilt skid plate
OBA
Lots of new body damage!
:driving:
It will be on the road with the little 32"s and unable to 4 wheel it due to 4.56 rear and 4.10 front. around the 1st week of Aug. Depending on how fast the shipping of the 5.29s and Detroit is I'll consider swaping in my spare 4.10 3rd to wheel it. The 36"s and wheels will be ordered after the SAS is done, just to make sure I'll have enough room for the 36"s.

ARB = $699
Detroit = $449
Another reason is there are less things to go wrong with the Detroit. Giving I've never had a problem with an ARB and I've had them front and rear in my old Ranger and never had a problem.

It does seem that way. I didn't even tell Joni why we had to leave the Runner at Neil's. She must know something is going to happen to it cause she knows that I got to take Neil the axles. She asked why I got the part time job and I told to fund the 4Runner's, she didn't say anything. So I guess she's fine with it, but she doesn't I bought and will be buying all the parts.

Sounds like the runner is well on the way. The yota gears are fairly easy, especially if you get the crush sleeve eliminators. The worste part is the tools, they are kinda pricey, but well worth it.

I had a big white box waiting at my door with a white polar bear on the sides. Emily thought I got her a big teddy bear. I give her a Yukon sticker for her power wheels Jeep.
So now all I need to get the 3rds set up is the detroit (it was shipped sepprate) and the solid crush collars. Everything should be here by Tues or Wed. Tires/Wheels will be sometime next week.
I also ordered some Dynabeads to balance the 36s and rencentered humvee beadlocks. 6x6usa said that the Dynabeads are the best way to balance any tire.
Went and got another pair of Chevy springs and I hope they lift the rear up more then 1".
I'd like to beable to wheel it Labor Day weekend.

I know I haven't been posting up how the SAS was going and I don't think anyone really cares but I'm going to let everyone know where my Runner is now. With 90% of the work done by Neil and all my thanks go to Neil for taking on the job.
I drove for a few days with the 32"s on it and it did good but the clutch is shot. I built up the 36" RT IIs and recented hummer beadlocks and drove it for a few days. I thought it'd be a dog with 4.10s and 36" tires but it wasn't.
As the Runner sits now,
Front,
Its TALL in the front with hybird Toyota rear springs (thanks goes to Bosco for mixxing the leaves up). I may end up lower it down to match the rear if I can't get it to sit level (looks like a pre-runner now). I haven't flexed it out cause I don't have a front drive shaft yet but it rides nice. I have my ARB 5.29 installed, rebuilt the axle, amd put on some vented rotors. My old IFS calipier for the drivers side has two pistons frozen so I had to order one from Advance. I still have to get the front end alinged.
Rear,
It's about 2" lower in the rear due the weight of the 2gen Runner on the Chevy springs. There is already a Rubicon Express XJ long Add A Leaf in the chevy springs but still didn't get the lift needed. Waiting to go in is a Chevy Fabtech add a leaf and if that doesn't work I have a pair of Offroad Designs Zero Rate Add A Leaf (its a 1" block that bolts to yoru leaf springs like a AAL). For shocks I have a pair F250 FX4 Rancho shocks but will be swaping them out for some Bill's soon. I have my ebay $.99 V6 3rd with 5.29s and detriot installed.
What else I need to do,
-The brakes need to be bleed but I can't do it till I get a new calipier.
-The rear main seal is leaking really bad and the clutch is done. More then likely due to leaking rear main. I have the clutch kit waiting to go in.
-Install the Fabtech add a leaf and hope it levels it out with the front.
-Flex it out to find out where to mount the bump stops.
-Install the square drive shaft.
-WHEEL IT and find out what needs to be tuned.
When I get time I'll take a couple of pics.

Steven I wouldn't worry about going somewhere to get it aligned, just do it yourself. The only thing really adjustable will be the Toe and that's super easy to do. Even if you do take it somewhere they will be confused as hell when they get your solid axle rig that is supposed to be IFS.
Have you bought the add-a-leaf yet? If not I just used one of my stock leafs and cut it down to a really long add-a-leaf and then put the chevy overload back in with the back half cut off.
usmcracing
09-18-2006, 08:49 AM
Yeah I bought and have the add a leaf already. Another thing is my Runner is heavier in the rear then your truck.
bosco
09-18-2006, 11:46 AM
Sounds like your doing pretty good. Ya just do the alignment yourself. Take a tape measure and measure the distance between the front side of the front tires and then the rear side. Then adjust your tie rod until the 2 measurements are the same or as close as you can get. :D Get some pics up when you get a chance! Later.

09-18-2006, 11:47 AM
You actually want it toed in a tiny bit, 1/16th - 1/8th of an inch. I like to measure off of the rims as well because they are more uniform than the tires.

You go straight out of your neighborhood to the next light. Turn left at that light. Then go down like a halfmile till you cross a little creek. After the creek it's the 1st street on the right (starts with an "I" I think). His house if first on the right. It literally takes 2 minutes.

What isn't safe about my Runner? I drove it to and from Advance for a few weeks to make sure everything was good to go. I knew the clutch was on its last leg (I don't call a sliping clutch a safety isue). Hell the clutch was since the day I bought it, so I guess I shouldn't have been driving it all year. I wasn't driving it work (my real job at NAS Jax) the whole time just a few days last week. How else do are you going to work the bugs out if you don't drive it? How else are you going to break in a new set of gears if you don't drive it? Yeah I have a 05 Frontier at home and no its not collecting dust, the days I don't drive it my wife drives it. When I had my 84 Toyota and also had a 96 Mustange Cobra I drove the 84 more then the Cobra and the 84 handled alot worse then Runner does now. I feel more safe driving the Runner now then I did before the SAS cause the old brake system sucked and I learned that the hard way. I can't lock the brakes up now even on a wet road, which I tested on a back road (Morse at 1100pm), the brakes don't lock up but for what the Runner is it I feel it stops decent. Thanks being concerned for my safety. :driving:
