View Full Version : Bobbleheads!

Here's what I did on Thanksgiving! (on private property by trained firearms owners, using complete gun safety principles, legally acquired firearms, and shooting against an earth burm. The Bobbleheads and Mazda are also private property)

You probably left the bobbleheads when you were done, didn't you?

That car should be hauled to a recycling yard.

Thanks Officer, but the property is a privately owned salvage yard on 40 acres, belonging to a good family friend of mine...feel better now? Yes, we left the bobbleheads there...are you trying to suggest that we're irresponsible, careless, or reckless? Because that's certainly how it reads.

From the pictures it looks like wide open desert plains. I apologize for not knowing it was private property when you made no mention of it

The photos themselves suggest that you are irresponsible and reckless.

I hate to single people out and point fingers, but we all need to be aware of the image we project of ourselves (the offroading community). What looks like harmless fun to one person may look like environmentally damaging and socially irresponsible behavior to another person. Sorry for stepping on your toes, but I am used to tiptoeing through my picture postings as we have a lot of people watching the Alaska forums I post on, and a few people have written the forum owner because of pictures they felt portraited intentional damage of the environment. We have to be careful as we never know who is watching and taking notes.

True, but also excessive.
First of all, I'm more concerned about our safety and responsibility with guns than with trucks. (It's always a primary issue by the way) And the photos suggest no such irresponsibility or recklessness. Are we running around hooting and hollering waving our guns in the air? NO.
By your standards, most of the wheeling pictures on this and other sites are potentially damning...Perhaps we should position each 4wheeling photograph to include a Forest Department trail sign in the background, just to prove that we're not on private property? Maybe in future shooting photos, I should affix my hunter's safety card and driver's license to all photos? Let's just get ahold of our wild assumptions here. If you feel these photos are inappropriate, you know who to take it up with. I''ve edited the post to include information regarding legality.

Okay, man, I'm not out to change your ways. Just pointing out that shooting stuff on top of an abandoned car is less than bright in the eyes of many.

Instead of saying, "Yes, we should haul that car out," you're acting like a sarcastic jackass and making me look like a paranoid narc when I'm just trying to note that perhaps these photos could be construed negatively and cast a derogatory view on offroaders.

Sorry for offering a conservative view of the photos.

spindleshanks
12-03-2005, 01:01 PM
Yeah, I may be. But I'm not agreeing with you here!
The owner of the car and property is in the Salvage Yard business...There is no home for this car after that! It is one of hundreds of vehicles on his lot that have no future, no value, and are all but stripped bare and rusted out.
And you know, shooting anything at all is less than bright in the eyes of many. Let's not open that can of worms. I don't hunt game...big or small, I don't shoot animals or people. I shoot inanimate things that react in an entertaining manner to a bullet. And I do it in a safe, controlled environment, privately owned environment with others who are trained in gun safety just as I am.
To use your phrase, 4Wheeling is less than bright in the eyes of many...Trying to drive up a rock face instead of around it while risking severe and irrepairable body and chassis damage is less than bright in the eyes of many. I think you want this site to be too apologetic to the general american public, who may or may not actually be checking it out at all.
And let's not make it sound like I took an innocent post and shoved it up your tailpipe...You came at me here flailing wild accusations, and you did not do it politely. Let's avoid the sugar coating.
But if you feel that I should take the photos down, we'll hold a vote.
Folks, please put in your 2 cents. If you feel that the photos I've posted are inappropriate, I'll voluntarily remove them.

Not quite. I just don't want the anti-access people to have any more ammo than they already have.

And let's not make it sound like I took an innocent post and shoved it up your tailpipe...You came at me here flailing wild accusations, and you did not do it politely. Let's avoid the sugar coating.

Not really. I said:

You probably left the bobbleheads when you were done, didn't you?

That car should be hauled to a recycling yard.

I accused you of leaving the bobbleheads (that sounds funny :D ), which you admitted to. Then I said the car should be hauled out, and you explained (which I thank you for). You said the rest about being irresponible or reckless. I never accused you in particular of doing anything. Anyone that knows me would say I'm one of the most polite, respectful, and courteous persons around.

But if you feel that I should take the photos down, we'll hold a vote.

I am more than willing to retract my statements for the sake of your thread; ask and ye shall receive. Now that I know it was private property I will just rest my case.

You're getting way too worked up. I apologize for antagonizing you or being misleading with my statements.

Hey, man, my approach was not the best. The intention was never to attack you or make a spectacle of you, only to offer constructive criticism that sometimes we must be careful in what we post, because we never know who is watching.

Clarity and brevity are not my strong points at some times.

My fawking gawd boys, simmer the fawk down... If you are highly offended by this post then you should be reading other chapters. Hence you do not live here. We've gone through our little spat about this gentlemans clicking noise and I can tell you that at times you come across as an individual who takes politically correct and technicalities a little too far. I understand that this post was not intentionally meant to attack any certain individual, yet your implications have done so. I know Spindleshanks, his father is a gunsmith and he is very responsable in handling his fire arms. We all have our opinions per certain subject matter, yet "can't we all just get along" (Rodney King then Angry Andy :D )

Cum on boys we're all sent to this earth to have a fawk load of fun, with responsability and concern for our fellow man. Yet we can't please em all. We are only gauranteed one life and then certain death... fawking enjoy it while it lasts :p Wheel hard and have fun... mucho love fur everyone :D

You obviously haven't read any of my posts about God or homosexuality or racism and the like. You'd know I'm no friend of political correctness.

While I am often a perfectionist that likes to use accurate terms, I think my posts in this thread were taken in a context other than what I intended.

I'm pretty angry sometines. I looked through a thesaurus and the only synonym that started with a "T" was "turbulent". Turbulent Thomas?

Here's what I have learned over the years ....this is how BAD communicators do things ...which I personally feel is irresponsible itself.

They Tell or Talk .....but don't Teach....theres a huge difference.
They Point and Yell .....but don't Lead....again...big difference.
They try to Enforce .....but don't Assist....again.
They focus on changing your position .....rather than examine the similarities.

Starbucks buys the low grade milk....it's from genetically 'encouraged' cows, so the likelihood of pus and blood in the milk is much higher than from natural milk. Usually pus milk is made into chocolate milk, but it works great for Frankenbucks because you can't see the milk discolorations in their coffee.

Let's find a "Moderate" run(s) to do. I did Schubarth last year by myself,stock....but thats like too easy I think ...

There are a few near Vail that look kinda interesting but snow could be a problem ...

I think heading South is the way to go to "Winter Wheel" ...

Any thoughts?

Otherwise it will turn into like small groups of people and shit ....I'm not about that. I'm an equal opportunity wheeler ...LOL!

For sure. Maybe we'll do a daytime run! lol. What about your area? Anything good round there? My buddy in C-Spgs would like to do some wheeling. Have you gotten to take your rig off road with its new components yet? I just fixed my exhaust we were talking about the other day. The pipe had been too close to a couple of different spots in the undercarriage, so when I accelerated from a stop, or downshifted, it vibrated through the bed and chassis. So I loosened everything up, twisted it around a bit, and now it's like having a new truck. The increase in driveability is amazing. My take offs and downshifts are smooth and quiet like they were with the stock exhaust. I guess I just did a half-assed job originally. Imagine that!

What you think I wanna go wheeling alone with you, the more people the merrier... Carnage was awesome we had a gaggle of people some who didn't even drive it... But this club has issues with getting a whole lot of people together fur wheeling. Most of the runs I've done are a small gaggle of people, especially during the winter. Its hard to schedule something... trust me this next year we'll be doing a lot chit, like Moab trips, etc... Like I posted a few weeks ago this will become an offroading club after all. I joined this club to wheel with toys... hee, hee... :D

Yeah I do. (Have the books) Ultimatly snow is gonna be the issue. Hate to say it but it will liklely just be a forest circus road with some snow and that should get us into enough trouble as is. Chains might be a good idea. Since I make my own hours right now I am pretty available but I do need to have some work done on my truck this week (Like get the ghetto steering fixed as well as have the brand new winch replaced). I was wishing I had my winch 2X with Josh on Carnage. It would have been helpful for sure with the snow....
