First off hello all!!
I just bought a new to me 2000 3.4L 4x4 ext-cab 5-spd.
I have a few questions about this rig compaired to my 89 22-re 4x4
1st.. is there a fluid capacities chart for this truck
(I don't have owners man)..
2nd... I have some type of tranz noise
WHEN IN NEUTRAL with clutch down; it is quiet!!
WITH clutch pedal out (IN "N") I have a whining type noise
ANY ideas as to what this is??
trans input bearing??
I will be changing to MT-90 and see if the noise changes.
I am going to try and take a road/off-raod trip across northern Canada.
would like to get this issue fixed before leaving Jan-10-06
ANY input as to other known week links in the drivetrain would be great!!
THANKS
Jp.

Sounds like the throwout bearing. If you are going to go to the trouble of changing that, i'd just go ahead and put a new clutch on it too...

I changed the fluid today!!
not a bad chore!
(VW tech by trade)
If the through-out bearing was the issue
wouldn't it fail, clutch disengauged/pedal in??
is there a way to adjust clutch pedal free play?
WHO makes a better manual the chilton/hayes?
SORRY for all the questions

The squeaking noise is from the light pressure that the throw-out bearing has when the pedal is all the way out. The throw-out bearing does not fully disengage from the pressure plate, so it spins constantly. When you push the pedal in, the added force on the bearing makes the squeak go away.

Yes, read this:

WHO makes a better manual the chilton/hayes?
Call Toyota Publications at 800-622-2033. They run about $150-200 for the 2 volume set.

as for the adjustment web link
I went through the motions of enshuring that ALL of thoes adjustments
were correct... the rod free play was a bit tight (some-one has adj before)
corrected and no change!!
I will be bleeding hydrolic for peace of mind.
(WHAT FLUID) dealer is WAY TOO FAR.
IS the T-out bearing a known issue with a v6-5speed and 4X4

I have again changed the trans fluid.
I filled with the truck tilted as found per search
this allows for a slight over-fill.
said to shift better...I will try anything at this point
I still have the same rolling/noise issues
I am getting ready to just swap trans's
New clutch ALL of it
Problem IS that I just spent the $$ on the rig
A bit tight on funds at the moment
ANY other things that I can try before calling the steelership and asking
for an ESTIMATE on parts only (i will labor)
THANKS FOR THE HELP!

i have the exact same sound on my 98 v6 5sp 4x4. when i push in the pedal, noise goes away. when i let it out, noise comes back and sounds horrible if i rev the engine, and its a really annoying whine. its been like that for a while on my truck and i have been told that its the throwout bearing. i havent put the truck in N on level ground but i havent noticed any rolling in neutral before. but i suppose it will have to stay like that until it comes time for me to replace the clutch which will most likely be in the next year or 2
