:saw: Started work on it today, 3 link is going to be based on Jake's truck, 37 mtrs everyday, 36 iroks on beadlocks for harder trail runs. TRD s/c with URD's fuel mods, auto with marlin dual cases - stock ratio. Jeep J10 front D44 with flat top knuckles, non trd toy rear, 4.89s in front, 4.88 in back, both air locked, Fox 14" coilovers, 63" 2wd chebbys in the rear, maybe double shackle setup, seriously considering bobbing the bed. Warn 9.5 in front, 1.75" .120 wall bumpers and sliders, safari rack if I bob the bed, Thinking about jeep style swing away tire and gas can carrier behind tailgate... maybe just dreaming.

Little more work done, parts arriving slowly. Had to send my t-case adaptor back to marlin to have it machined for the proper seal, been 4 weeks and counting. Picking up steel for links on monday and dropping off passenger side knuckle to have it machined and tapped for sky arm at same time. Can't mock up suspension until I have final resting place for double cases...... Made suspension tabs today for axle side. Getting anxious. Going slooooow, damn life keeps getting in the way. I'm out of room for pictures, how do I add them full size like you guys do?

You might want to add a valve body upgrade to you auto tranny, your tranny will thank you for it.

4.88 isn't available for the d44, so 4.89 was the closest available. Valve body upgrade.... trans will be toast without it. Add it to the list.

On the bright side, steering box is up and mounted, frame plated & sleaved on dr side, plated on pass side, made a new front crossmember. :welder: Do I need to have a host to show my pictures?

What's the deal with the valve body upgrade? I am gonna be going up to 37's after a few months on 35's and I am not aware of this mod. I am going to make the jump to hydro assist when I move to 35's as well and already had my box ported and rebuilt by PSC. Sorry to hijack your post but I wanted to find out what this is.

Thanks Andy, don't want to bother you so I'll set up a account tommorow to host my pics. I want this this wheeling by Feburary or I'm going to take up ballet. I'll make every effort to keep pics up as I do things. Nothing is new here, just using tried and true designs from members on this board, then add some of my own character to it. Oh yeah, I own a small stereo shop so the inside will be loaded with goodies to

Guess I didn't do enough searching, randy's ring & pinion didn't show them at the time. This axle was set up 4 years ago, maybe thats why? Don't know, they work fine.

Front range tcase crossmember showed up, nice, ordered bungs for johnny joints from Kar Tech yesterday. Creepin along. Oh yeah, Picked up 3x4 .188 wall steel for 3 link cross member, see if I can get that built tomorrow. Got a photobucket account set up, see if I can put some pictures up.

Ok, marlin shipped the modified dual case adaptor finally, should be here monday or tues. I sent it off begining of DEC.... they were backed up big time. This is what I have sitting around waiting to find a home, chevy rears, 8 2.5" johnny joints, bunch of 2" .250 wall tube, new warn 9.5, dana 44 with sky's high steer arms installed (got knuckle back from machine shop wednesday), got my springs on the coilovers. As soon as the adapor is here I'll put it in and then I can locate my front suspension crossmember, oh yeah have the front range crossmember as well, and all the 1.75 x .120 wall tube for bumpers, sliders, etc. Frustrating

All the valve body does is increase the line pressure if you have an auto tranny so you dont burn up the clutch packs or any other part in the tranny.

My speed sensor is in the trans right? I've looked and thats what it looks like. Don't want to loose the speedo and odometer. Anyone see any problems with this setup?

Looks as if it might have more clearance on that side and a little easier to build the mount on top of the diff. Going to look into it when I get the axle under the truck for mocking up.

Yes, my third link is on top of the diff, but if I remember correctly, your diff is driver side. If so, I think the geometry is supposed to be different, and the link has to run downwards from the axle to better prevent wheel hop. Mine is running upwards towards the frame on the pass. side.

Also, you may find your pitman arm insert doesn't fit. If so, go here:

It's hard to tell for sure in those pic's but it looks like you need to rotate your lower links down at the axle and keep the center of the joint on the lower plane of the axle tube or your going to have a big, big problem with your axle wanting to rotate the dif into your oil pan along with a multitude of other problems.......go ahead and ask me how I know! :)

....the rest looks really good!

roktaco

I now have peep holes in my frame...... The sway bar I so handily notched into the frame still doesn't allow enough clearance for the suspension to compress fully. It is going to be in front of the axle now. No clearance issues up front. I cycled the suspension fully and the differential barely rotates at all, tucks in perfectly next to the oil pan. All looks good so far. I'll work on the sway bar again tomorrow, and start cutting out the upper fender for the coilovers. 14" wont quite fit in there. Might get the hoops up tommorrow, they are already bent. Knuckles should be in monday, so I can get final measurements on the steering and have it made up by pmp and make the panhard bar up. :D

Worked on pass side hoop today, finished. Going to have to recess the sway bar in the front of the axle, again. Slooowly progressing. The guys who do this in a day  hats off to ya. On a good note, picked up a job sasing a 01 extra cab, gave him price for coilover and leaf springs. Now he has to decide!

Thanks for the compliments :D Drivers side hoop is finished, steering is finished except lines. Talked to PMP yesterday and arms should ship by today. Cant finish the steering or panhard until the knuckles show up for the axle. So today we are going to finish up the sway bar then move onto the back springs using a double shackle setup. :welder:

On to the back now, removed stock springs and axle, cut off brackets and started removing bushings in chevys, holy crap what a pita  Any suggestions, I'm using the torches now. Going to research this weekend which shackle setup I am going with. Felt like taking more pics for the fun of it, really pleased with how the front is looking :great:
One of my buddies wants to do the same thing as mine, we came up with a figure of about 10k total with dual cases, fr arb, ctms & chromos, 3 link, antirock, front range x member, pmp high steer etc, with all associated materials and then some for labor. Made me realize how much I really have in my truck  well here are some more pics, enjoy

Clark,
Thanks, this is my third truck, I built an 84 frame up with fuel injected 350, orbit eyes, arbs, dual cases, tube bed etc etc, build is still over on pirate somewhere. Loved that truck, but to small inside and had some overheating issues, then I bought Trail carnage's 3 linked sas xtra cab taco, did some work to my liking, rolled it over twice.... but was scary on the street and still ran out of room inside. Now onto the double cab built to my liking, exactly the way I want. This is my dream truck... right now.... want a capable COMFORTABLE dd with no bad manners, not to tall, not to wide, with all the goodies and unique. Not cheap, but I'll have no payment when I'm done on a truck my buddies and I built. Can't ask for more.

Lbz hasn't arrived yet. Ordered it Jan 23, came off the assembly line last thursday, should be getting a call to pick it up in the next couple of days. Actually flying across country to Kellog Indiana to pick it up! Crazy but the dealer destroyed the local prices and paid for my plane ticket plus fuel back!! I've never been past the Mississippi, now I get to drive across country. Actually looking forward to it. Sorry, should keep this in chit chat.
Did get rear hangers done today, and figured out shackle design. Will have some pics in the am.

Concentrating on the rear now while waiting for pmp knuckles to finish the front. Started off by moving the leaf mounts 7.5" forward of the stock location, this proved to be 1" short so had to move it to 8.5". Perfect. Used a johnny joint for mounting the rear shackle, had to play with its position a bit to avoid using a block and getting shack angle right. Made up some ubolt plates out of 6x6 by 3/8 plate. Took out the overload spring, everything seems to be setting right with the bed on.

Get to pick up my LBZ on the 9th! Can't wait.....

Update, had the front end mocked up, panhard frame mount clearance with the drag link has made me move the axle about 1.5" farther forward, slowing progress. I'm trying to keep the panhard as long as possible and have been able to keep it parallel with the drag link. I mounted my panhard high, keeps roll center high, which gives the feeling of more stability side hilling etc, but if it goes, it goes all at once! I've mocked up the front end many times now. Slow process. Oh yeah, pinched fox coilover line tonight, another thing to slow me down. Front frame height is going to be under 30" at ride height, what I was shooting for. One good thing.....

Thanks for the compliments,
Finished panhard bar mounts, have a temporary panhard bar in, have to make the real one now. Chromos and ujoints will be here wed. Steering measurements called in to independent 4x so I can get final tierod and drag links in place. Got my 2 transfer case levers in and hooked trans shifter back up. Going to have to modify the crawler box shifter to have it come out in the stock location. Both driveshafts done, just need to put them in.

Hello Steve. As you know I've been following your built very closely. Great job, man - looks as if your getting near the end like me. I've got three questions for you (or anyone else who would like to chime in):
1. Adjustable panhard rod. Is that what it's called and where did you get the rod insert to adjust the lenght of the panhard bar?
2. That Currie anti-swaybar setup you have seems to be very rigid. Does the crossbar allow for a fair bit of twist for when you hit a pothole, or are both wheels pretty much "linked"?
3. I really dig that Johnny joint you're using for your rear shackle. I don't seem to be getting alot of flex with my chevvy leafs as I jack the rear up and I'm thinking that the lack of weight plus the rigidity of my longer shackles may have someting to do with it. Question: Have you done this before, and if so, how is highway handling?

Thanks. gary

sounds like a great build!! - good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Answers:
1. I made that up from some old links from my other truck for mock up, I am making a solid panhard once its all dialed in. I don't trust the adjustable one for hard use.
2. That Currie anti-swaybar is perfect, just like a stock sway bar in principle, makes a HUGE difference on road, quick disco it and you best of both worlds.
3. Johnny joint setup works great, haven't had it at highway speeds yet

and again thanks for the compliments.

This is where I am now, she is running & driving. Playing hell bleeding the brakes, mushy pedal, adjusted the emergency brakes, bleeding it again

I used an antirock from Currie, shortened the arms for clearance but still used the holes it came with. I'll snap some pics in the am and take some measurements for you guys, it works great by the way. I can come into any corner at whatever speed I want within reason and have very little body roll. I've been driving the truck every day for over a month now and on a couple 600 plus mile trips, no complaints, except the price of premium gas.....

Sorry about the slow reply, first thanks for the props, mtzs, no real experience off road as I put my iroks on when I go out, they are wearing very well, getting a little louder, I would say I'll get 25k at least out of them. I do have some video, just can't figure out how to get it online. As far as clearance, yes had a problem with panhard bar mount contacting the frame so I notched the frame and reinforced it. No problem now. Paint, I did some damage to the tailgate and rear fender last time out and am fixing that and coming up with some protection. Some 1.75" .120 wall tubing and the bender should take care of it. Paint scheme is going to be desert marpat, if I can figure it out how to lay it down (digital camo).

Thanks
Steve
