Well I got the brackets cut and the legs that weld to the brackets cut this morning. Laid out the brackets to punch the slotted holes and *no power* :( . Apparently the main power box to the shop and iron worker is getting re-wired and won't be done til' tomorrow...oh well. Anyway, I made the brackets out of some 6x6x5/16 angle iron and cut it down to 6x2 1/2 with each bracket being 3 inches wide. The "legs" that go from the bracket to the first runner on the sliders are 1.75x1.75x.120 square, which is what the first runner will be also. Each leg is 6 inches long, which will place the first runner right under the seam of the body/rocker panel. The outer runner is going to be either 1.75x.120 round or 1 1/4 ASTM A53B sch40 (still reading and learning and debating that whole thing). I am undecided as of yet whether the legs that go from the first runner to the outside runner will be sqaure or round. Any opinions? I know I want the outer runner round, but other than that I think I may make the rest square. Let me know what you guys think will look better and any feedback on the rest is appreciated too!

I don't know about 05's but on earlier Tacoma's the legs are not all the same length (frame tappers). Did you measure first of Just assume they would all be the same length?

Nope, didn't assume... never assume!! :D On the 05's they're all the same length. Check out this guys pics of his install of the Demello sliders for the '05 and you can see: http://homepage.mac.com/jbryan/PhotoAlbum13.html

Thanks for the heads up, I do appreciate it. I made sure to measure before I cut, and from the front to the back I think there was a difference of about 1/16" from the frame to the seam on the rocker panel.

Well I got the 9/16 x 1 1/2 and the 9/16 x 3/4 slotted holes punched in the brackets. I then cut some 3x2x3/16 angle and cut the 3" side at an angle. These I welded to the bracket and leg as a gusset... probably a little overkill but oh well. So, all the brackets and legs are welded together. Gonna bolt them up to the frame and get the first runner done hopefully on friday or saturday. Maybe even have them all done minus paint by then but I doubt it. There will be 1 3/8" of clearance between the rocker panel seam and the first runner, which will be directly under the seam. I'm happy with how they're coming along so far.

Check out the pics, lemme know what you guys think.

Well, I finally got around to workin on these damn sliders a little more. I bent up the 1.75 x .120 round, went with sixty degree bends six feet apart. That spacing should match up just right when they are spaced away from the seven foot runner of 1.75 x .120 square. Anyway, I'm having some problems with the tubing deforming when I bend it. The bender I'm using is an EZEBEND model 5000 (I think thats the model from lookin at the pics on the webpage). It can be seen here: http://www.ezebend.com/ . I'm using the right size dies and everything...don't really know why the tubing is deforming. It's not horrible and I don't mind a little deforming for the sliders but I'm thinking about building my own front bumper too and I dont want deformed tubing on display on my bumper. On the 1.75 round, if you look at the bend from the top I would say it probably deformed the tubing to 1.5. Does anyone have any tips to keep this from happening?? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks guys. :xbeer1:

I have heard that too, but always thought it was a way to get cheap benders to bend well. The bender I'm using is supposed to be a pretty nice one, so I wouldn't think that it would be necessary to fill the tube with sand...? I really don't know though, I'm pretty new to the tube bending thing.
Tips anyone?

Wow. Very nice!!!!!!!! When I do mine I think I'm going to do it cheaply and come straight out. (not up like yours). Comming up through does look A LOT nicer!

I'm assuming they are going to be bolt on? Not being a smart ass, but how are they going to bolt on? I'm stuck on that step for my sliders.

Thanks.
Straight out is cool too, I just prefer the look of the angled up style.
Yep, they will be bolt on. I don't really know what is stronger and I don't care to have that whole debate, I just don't want to weld to my 05 frame. Don't really know how to explain HOW they will bolt on....with bolts? :D My frame brackets are 6x2 1/2x5/16 angle that contacts the whole frame. Each bracket will have two bolts, one on the side and one on the bottom (four brackets per slider). My frame is a C channel though. Since yours is a '99 then I would go with the U bracket style. On the 05s there are existing frame holes that work perfect for bolting on sliders (don't know about older tacos??).

Ah, I see. I was wondering, How the hell would he bolt those on! Mine is just a big rectangle.

So what do you think is a good way to bolt mine on? Lets say 0 is the frame. The top is the top closest to the cab, bottom is closest to the ground...

CO or

0
U

I know it's horrible! But you kinda get the idea. I'm assuming just drill through the frame on both sides and throw a bolt on it?

With your boxed frame I would go with the same style bracket as Dick's: http://www.tacomaterritory.com/~dickfoster/Pics/Dicks_Sliders.PDF

Which, the way you were trying to describe it would be:
0 <----frame
U <----bracket
I believe the way to bolt those style brackets would be to drill all the way through your bracket and frame and put bolts clear through.

I've heard some say fill tubes with sand when they have a cheap tube bender but mostly a pipe bender trying to bend tube. It still doesn't always work though.

Yes, having the shop is nice (actually my family's) and they/we are already in business (sadly not building off-road products). We build alot of parts for the cell-tower industry and other structural applications. Sure is convenient having the shop and most of the steel/aluminum/stainless I could ever want on hand though.

THANKFUL More so than gun's............, FOR our servicepeople that carry these around, sleep with them, eat with them, in arms reach 100% of their LIVING time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Living a "REALITY" that I can't imagine. Only "THEY" know.
Of course, stateside, a person is publically labeled as crazy, paranoid, etc. until one of their sister's, aunt's, mother's, daughter's................you know, get's raped or killed. Then, it's a mad dash to the gun store. Now, who's crazy????

Uhhm uhhmm, what happened, oh yeah Wheels, I gotta' go wheeling soon, I've just gotta get my computer dialed in. :xcrazy: :xbeer3:

P.S.
I've been mentioning this on other threads, it's worth the extra effort to check out POR-15. This is the shit!!! If I could, I'd slather it all on the belly of the truck, not to mention the Armour. It applies kinda' thick, syrup like. You can put as much of it that you want. I wouldn't be surprised if I didn't get 3/16" on some of my goods. I then had em' LINE-X'd, and since then, have been putting all kinds of rattle can Rustoleum, etc. on my Armour, "Too much is NEVER enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :xozzy:
OH YEAH, A BIG WORD OF WARNING, (CAUTION!!!)

This stuff is EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE!!!
Take all the regular precaution's, and you might not apply POR-15 to areas that you are planning to weld, or "flame cut"!, etc. This stuff goes up like wildfire, (EVEN in IT's HARDENED, FINISHED), STATE. It catches fire, and kinda start's burning in a LAVA like consistency. I assume no liabity in presenting these hazards. I am simply, trying to lead a person to take personal responsibility for their action's, and to take proper care to avoid a potentially hazardous situation(s)!

Those look great! I've been watching your truck transform little by little. I have a few questions for you if you wouldn't mind. How long are the square tubes that come off the frame, and at what angle did you decide on once you welded on the slider? Hope that made sense! I have ZERO experience welding, but a close friend of mine is experienced and is going to fab some sliders up for me... can't wait!

They are indeed a lot like Demello's hybrid sliders. The only difference I can see is that I kept my square tube level to the truck, where as Demello tilts it with the outer tube.

The way I make them is a little harder because of the angle cut on the mounting legs but I really wanted a pointed surface to contact the rocks! It's the closes to triangle sliders I could get. Less contact means less hanging up.

Keep up the good work, lets see more stuff!
