i have been toying with ideas to build a trire rack for the bed that incorperates 2 spares and boxes for straps and other gear. but i like to having a suefull bed as well. thanks to some guys here i have come up with an awsome way to have my cake and eat it too. i picked up some superstrut at home depot and some cne nuts as well. unistrut may have more fasteners available but it is a 35 mile drive through la for me to get some of that stuff. i am going to research the campatabilty of the two brands soon.

so i ran two lengths in the bed, front to back tight against the whel well. this is the foundation. i will have cross bars that mount to the channels and gear will be bolted or welded to the crosbars. the cross bars will be secured with 4 bolts each and will be instaled or removed in about 2 minutes. the channels ar bolted down with 1/2"(overkill?) bolts in the front back and midle. the nut spcone nuts as they are called at home depot come in 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch sizes but i can't find 1/2 inch fasteners that fit in the 1 5/8 by 3/4 chanel i have. thay are to tall and made for the higher profile chanel that i do not with to run. maybe unirstrut makes a better section. 3/8" grade 8 bolts should do the trick though.

this simple and fast mod can give you endlees possibilities for you bed and is super versitle and verry easy to work with.

Mike, go to McFaddendale in Santa Ana for any fancy bolts you need. Try using 3/8 cap head allen bolts. Should be low profile, and still plenty strong enough. You should look under my truck bed to see how my fasteners are mounted. This way, you can guarantee they won't rip through the bed, or tear the bed.

well. i bolted it down with 1/2 inch bolts and huge washers. it will be good to go. i was thinking about mcfadendales for the spring nuts. i cant find 1/2 inch threaded ones that fit into the low profile chanel anywhere. lows, home depot, ash and ace only have them up to 3/8 in that style. i might have to drive up to bellflower to get what i want from the reqional unistrut peeps.

i need to tack some brackets to my frame. for rock lights. can i stop buy and bum the ude of your welde between christmas and new years?

Try IMS... Industrial Metal Supply in Irvine. Right down the road from you, maybe only 10 minutes. Alton/Redhill. They have all of it, and they have nice fab brackets, not hack jobbers. Plus, they have good supply of 1018 CR plate, but not much chromo. They are REAL expensive to get true seamless DOM, or chromo from. Better to hit Schorr metals in Placentia, or B&K metals in Gardena. Schorr is the best prices around for all steel. For small stuff, the depot is still as good as any other. WELDER??? Mi Casa Su Casa. Come on by, my pleasure. I will be back in Jtree by Wed..... work work work.

well, i got my co2 tank in but i am not hapy with it. you can't use it on it's side, so i mounted it upright. the beefy bracket from off road aid is built well but kind of wobly if mounted from the botom only because the upright portion that holds the tank in is only braced to the botom on the back so the weight of the tank makes it flex a lot. i will probably just put it on it's side for now and un latch it when in use so i can stand it up. i will try to snap some pics tomorow after i change the way the tank is. after i build a full rack for tires and gear i will integrate the whole thing.

thanks
mike

You guys probably don't have TSC out there. They're way better than HD for small, spur of the moment projects that require steel.

with my 33x10.50s I'm good for 4-5 trips and that includes filling up other guys half the time. ;) cost around $11 to refill.

am new to the co2 thing. is it a flat fee pluss the amount of co2 you get? 11 for ten and 14 for 20 makes me think so.

the gas cost is a few cents. you pay for the time it takes the guy to fill the tank + the shop's overhead.

That's stupid, shouldn't it be flat rate for every Airgas?

one would think...and Bezerkely usually has higher prices then anyone due to all their extra local taxes.
