anyone in Jax have a truck that could tow a 90 4runner back with a tow dolly(i'll rent)? Looking to do it Jan 8th(Sunday) if that is ok with the guy i'm buying it from. Road trip to Stuart, FL 3.5 hrs? I'll supply gas and food.

That would be awsome steven!!! My poor taco has done its share of pulling rigs from far off places and I think it is starting to not like it so much considering I just passed 130k and its an 01!

I'm sure your Taco has 130k plus more if they hold up like all the other Toyotas.

I know it will. It still runs like the day I drove it off the lot with 4 miles on it!

That would be great man, I'll make sure she's filled up when she comes back to ya! Let me know, I might see if I can borrow my bro in laws Chevy if I can't find anything else. My roomy just got a 2006 F150 with the 5.6L , but didn't get the darn tow stuff...

OK, Roll Call.... Who's going? Who's not? Steven is it a go that we can use the Super-Duty?( I think Bryan is going to sabotage you going just so he can drive) I'm going house shopping saturday morning, then i'm going to try and set up an appt to get the tow dolly saturday evening before they close. We can head out sunday morning, what ever time everyone wants to get together before or after breakfast.

01-05-2006, 08:21 PM
Okay, Joni and Emily may be along for the ride, I'll know for sure tomorrow. I'm fine with Sun morning, just give me a call this weekend. 904 349 5935

Oh and I live down the road from Bryan on Collins. So the Uhaul on Bland Blvd would be the best place to pick up the dolly (it should cost you more then $50, Drew rented one for only $40 when we got his truck). I also want you to understand that my F350 is a diesel and with the price of diesel right now it cost around $80 +/- to fill the tank. So Stuart, FL is 244 miles from Jax (32244) I'm going to guess that it'll take about a tank and half. I just want you to know up front about how it'll cost to get your 4Runner.

Steven

Mikeyk280
01-06-2006, 01:09 PM
Yeah I gotcha on the diesel stuff. I'll have plenty of $$$ for gas, ect. I'll use either the uhaul by Best Buy or the other down the road. Bryan are you still going???

usmcracing
01-06-2006, 04:25 PM
Joni isn't going but Emily and Drew are, so that leaves room for one more if Bryan wants to come too. Give me a call when you want me to get the dolly.

Steven

Mikeyk280
01-06-2006, 09:12 PM
Dolly is paid for, I'm giong to call tomorrow and see if we can pick it up before they close so we can head out early sunday morning if that is cool. It's the car/truck hauler so all 4 wheels will be off the ground, not just the dolly thing. Same price...

Thats called a TRAILER. Just give me a call and a time. Which U Haul store? LOL

Mikeyk280
01-07-2006, 07:34 AM
What if I wanted to name her Dolly huh... J/K I put the reservations for the Uhaul near Best Buy down the road from you guys. They are supposed to call me today, I'll probably just call them later in the afternoon if they don't call by then. I'll be out house shopping today for a 4-5 hours this afternoon but i'll have my cell on me. Thanks again for the help steven!!!

Well since you have some knowledgable company lined up I think I will bow out of this trip. It will give me a chance to spend some time with the wife and keep her happy since she is most likely not going on the campout. Good luck and I cant wait to see it!!! Later man.

Bryan

P.S. Mike, I ordered the PC yesterday so hopfully we can plan a dinner/PC assembly gathering later next week.

01-08-2006, 07:10 PM
Yes he got it. Its really clean and the engine runs really good. The vibs are kind of weird, the guy said its just a bad ring gear. Over all its a great buy. Can't to see Mike wheel it. The F350 enjoy towing it too, if I didn't see it in the rear view I wouldn't have known I was towing it.

OH YEAH I GOT IT!!! I'm pretty darm happy with it! Now all i need is a 4.88 for the rear or swap in some other gears and i'm set!!! I'd like to get it running for the campout this weekend and get some 5 speed practice under my belt.

01-08-2006, 08:16 PM
Where's the pics Mike? Come on man you're killin us :D

Is this thing stock? What gears are you switching the 4.88s for? I'm looking for 4.56s 3rds maybe.

it's got about 2 inches of lift... spacers... ARB bumper that I need to put on, 31" BFG At's 3.0 V6 5 speed, and very clean. I need to get some seat covers for the front seats though. I'll take some pics and try to post em this week. It's at my parents house near Bryan and Steven's so I might swing it by there and test drive it sometime to show it off... :O)

Mike you got 32"s. You should call 4wheelparts today and get V6 4.88s andinstall kit, then call summit racing and get a lock rite. If called them now may have the parts by wed and Ricky (Toyota gear guy) can have them in time for the camp out.

That reminds me...I saw "wetsuit" material waterproof seat covers at Sams club the other day. Pretty nice with a few color choices and they were only like $17 for TWO!!! Just to let everyone know.

Even if Mike gets all this done, the gears still need break in time before the first wheeling trip right? I wouldn't rush things, but that's just me.

usmcracing
01-09-2006, 06:22 AM
You're right about the break in, but if he took it easy they'd be fine.

Now he could put the 400 break in miles on it in an evening.

Well Mike knows that Neil has an IFS diff with 4.10's and I have a rear diff with 4.10's. IMO this would the easiest and best way for him to get it on the road and start working out bugs and figuring out and prioritizing the upgrades he wants. At least it would be driveable and wheelable right away. :2cents:

ahh decisions... if I can work out a deal with you guys on the 4.10's then i'd love to do that. I'd hate to buy a 4.88 when i'm just gonna SAS the darn thing here shortly. I don't plan on beating her up this weekend, I still gotta get used to the 5 speed again. If i got the 4.10's this week maybe the guy Ricky could install them for a decent price unless someone else has the time/knowledge?

usmcracing
01-09-2006, 10:16 AM
You are right but if it were me I wouldn't want to do double work and that would twice the double work. Yes its easy to swap the 3rds but I'd just pull the rear and 4.88s and call it done. He should just bring the Taco out to the camp out this weekend. How I'd or whoever would do doesn't matter here cause it's Mike's Runner.

Mike the 4.10s that they have are in 3rds already and don't need to be set up. You can swap them in a few hours.

I think 4.88s would work good with 35"s when do SAS it, your engine felt strong on the test drive.

Whatever you want man. Just let us know. I dont know how to do the IFS diff but the rear is easy. I know it would suck but it might just be best if you drove the taco and delt with all this later. I am the king of trying to last second things and really does suck and bad things always happen...hence me missing most of the last trip that I planned!

Yeah i'm pretty happy with it... And yeah if I got gears in it i'd ride it 400 miles nice and easy in one evening... That thing is going to be fun. I'm going to be patient with it. I'd like to bring it camping, just to get it out and drive with the new gears, but i'd probably ride along with someone else for now... otherwise I still own that truck... oh yeah my Tacoma...
