I have a preference for the look of a black toolbox. However, there is a crome-ish toolbox for sale used in my area that I'm thinking about buying.
Is it possible to paint it or would that be a mistake?
Edit: If I wasn't clear, I'm talking about the kind of toolbox that mounts in your bed.

I've got a black toolbox that I bought black from UWS. It's got a tiny chip on it, and it's chrome underneath. Not even sure if that means that you could paint it or not, just thought I'd throw that out there.

I suggest looking into using rhino-lining to paint the box. The stuff is pretty indestructable and looks cool.

I second the spray on bedliner from wal-mart. i used it on my front bumper and it has not chipped. its been on for over 2 months and i drive atleast 60 miles daily. plus it looks a lot better IMO, and if it does ever chip u can always touch it up since its a textured surface anyway. 6 bucks was the price i paid for the can.

etching primer, some semi-gloss black... thats what I plan on doing to mine eventually. We'll see how well it hold up, but...

thats what i originally did with mine, it was holding up pretty good, but about 3 weeks after i had done it, i went on a 4 hour drive and it was raining, when i got to my hotel i looked at my bumper and it was all chipped. :(

I painted mine a little while back. Seems to be doing well so far.

thats where i did mine a while back, pics at end of thread. self etch primer from napa and good ol gloss black, new rubber sealant around the lid and it works great. i have noticed a few small dings and chips, nothing past the primer. when the chips get 2 be a problem im sure a light sanding job and another coat or 2 of paint and it will be good.
