This is where the desert guys seem to hang out, so here it is. I just got my rule book. I am having a hard time deciding between 7 open and 7SX. I have a 3.4 V6, so that seems to eliminate 7S due to the 3.0L displacement cap. The thing I can't figure out is if I can make my body work legal for 7SX. I have already caged it, chopped off the front end, ditched the bed, ditched the glass, and relocated the radiator.

In 7 open I can run without glass and with fiberglass skins, but that seems to be a big money class. Money I don't have.

7SX seems to be a more restricted class. The book says you can run fiberglass up front, but not out back. I can't find out how much of the bed you can carve away. It says you can modify the inner wells, but does that mean I have to have a bed floor still?

I also haven't found anything that mentions radiator relocation. Is it legal? It doesn't seem to say that I can't.

All I really want to do is run this thing in the Baja 500. Just to say I did it. I don't really need to be competitive. As long as I finish that is enough for me.

Here is where the truck stands now. Aside from the body and cage work it is a stock 97 V6 4X4. Anything is appreciated.

Those are nice pics, but where is this "class 15" covered? It is not in the SCORE-International rule book. What rule book/sanctioning body is it covered under?

i bet dollar for dollar it will be in next years rule book, the deal with class 15 is its sportsman truck, ie run what you bring... thing is there isnt rules and dan taught score a lesson today with this, they tried to DQ him for a supercharger before the race ever began.. he pointed out that class 15 has no rules and hence that it is legal to race with a SC...
main rules are the inspection issues and cage tube sizes, which unless your truck is 2" i can bet you that you wont beable to run any baja races anytime soon.. THe main internals have to meet the new adendum that came out for race cages. unfortuanatly the book you have probably does not have this in it.

Sounds interesting. Just bring it on down and go for broke(but not broken). I saw the cage rule change on the site. I built the cage a few years ago. I used .120 wall moly, I just can't remember if it is 1.5 or 2 inch. I was surprised at how little cage is required. Only 2 hoops with down bars. No roof X required.

I am curious what they do at inspection. Do they NDI the cage for cracks? How do they check for molly VS mild steel?

Another thing, how do you guys handle pits, fuel, etc? Is there a service company that privateers can hire, or is it a provide for yourself type of thing? What are entry fees/requirements like? What do they cover, etc? The SCORE website is a little thin on info.

Man, even with the rule book I still have a lot of info gaps to fill.

pits are pretty much do it yourself, they dont NDI, but they do randomly check for proper thickness, material cant be faked im sure theres a tube somewhere in your truck unpainted... im guessing your using 1.5 maybe 1.75 at most. weight regulations will kill you on that unless raced before jan 1 06, obvoiusly passed that date. for class 15 entry fees range from 800 and up... not cheap...

if you're set on the 7S class, I've heard they're changing the rules to allow up to a 4.0 in 2007.

So class 15 has no rules? Is this going to change?

If you are in it just for fun & don't care about any payback, Sportsman 1500 is the class you'd want to race in SCORE. The entry fees for 7/7s/7sx are way higher than 1500...to give you an idea on class 1500 SCORE entry fees, the recent Baja 1000 was $1200 and the Laughlin race this week costs $800.

1200 bucks? SCORE!!!! Grassroots class my ass, I can't believe it's that much for the sportsman class. I realize there are thousands of people who make the races happen , but for a class that is supposed to be mainly unsponsored racers that's a lot of money. Oh well, i guess i'm just having sticker shock.

If you run BFGs you can sign up for their pit services, which handle fuel, tires, and anything else you need.
