that is an awsome picture
I got a ball python didn't eat for over a year when I first got it, that was back in 1989. Thought it was a male till I found it wrapped around some eggs. She is still alive and doing well.

Sorry to jack the thread here, but I've got a ball python as well. You think you could PM with any tips on how you got yours to eat?! It's been at least 13 months since mine has eaten. I bought it from a pet store in March of last year, and it refuses to eat. It's shed 4 or 5 times since I've had it, skin is healthy, no mouth rot. I'm stumped! Don't want it to die on me.....

well first:
how big is your snake?
what size mice are trying to feed it?
live or frozen?
male or female mice?
Color of mice?
all of which matter like mine will only eat male mice mostly live but once in a while a frozen mouse and he only eats them if they are either all white or the front half is brown. and some i have heard like their mouse to be dead and slightly rotten. they are picky F'n eaters

Damn... I had 4 Balls and none of em were EVER that picky! Stepside, you *must* have an older Ball - I have never heard of a young one going 13 months without eating. My guess is that is is almost 4 feet and would eat rats at this point. Did it ever eat when you first got it? What did the pet store say about feeding it??

I was as worried as you were and the same basic situation. One night we found a pinky mouse in the house (a young one with no fur) we put it in the tank and the next day it was gone. Searched everywhere in the tank for it, GONE!
So I brought done a mouse (use to raise them) and tossed it in. Bang got that one, fed her six mice that night (all I had).
She has eaten large rats, small rats, I use to get the nasty gerbils for real cheap from the pet store, she has eaten baby rabbits, chicks, but mostly I feed her mice or small rats.
You may want to try a young gerbil that is close to there natural prey. Also put a box with an opening (not to large) for the snake to be in and snap out at the prey. Leave it overnight, but only if it is pretty harmless like a small mouse or similar. A rat or regular gerbil could kill the snake. Give it lots of quiet space with no movements other then its prey. Perhaps even get a pinky mouse.

I had a corn snake at one point, but it died on me. When I'd feed it and it'd pass the food, it looked like bird sh*t. This one, about a month after buying it produced something that looked more like cat sh*t. I was like wtf?! I guess I'll have to try the gerbil thing or something. I've got one of those rubbermaid plastic tote things I put it in to feed, cuz the critters can chew their way out of it's cage. The snake is about 4 ft and maybe a few inches. I've read that this can sometimes be normal and shouldn't be worried about until the snake begins shedding weight. It's definately gotten skinnier since I first brought it home. Here's a few bad pics of it. I'll try and get more later when it's stretched out and all.

mine has always been in a glass tank so never had problems with that
they may be more comfy in there tank and with the baby rodents there is nothing to worry about chewing and once they start eating they won't be in the tank long enough to chew
they say to feed them in other tanks because it keeps from becoming aggressive in there tank
also it isn't really good to keep them in a wire tank pay attetion to the nose if it looks raw it is rubbing trying to escape which they are very good at.
mine was the same basic size of yours when I got her and she was about 3 years old

Well, it's not really wire.. It's more of a plastic/rubber mesh. I went with that cause I figured it'd be safer than chicken wire or something similar. It's escaped once and took a full day of tearing my room, and one of my mattresses up to find it. The petstore even suggested goldfish, but they died as well. I'll see if I can't scrounge up a gerbil or something like that.

it won't eat fish or amphibians or other reptiles baby mice
glass tanks are better though
Mine escaped three or four times, one time it was gone for a week in the walls at my parents house when I lived there. The other times weren't to difficult to find
