Are you a Triple A member?

You can get a Triple A price. Mine(05 DC shortbed TRDOF) was $27,100 + fees, Triple A price.

The truck is big, but great. Not a lot of aftermarket out there for it yet. Cab is roomy. Still getting used to the 130" wheelbase on the shortbed.

I think Edmunds.com has a True Market Value listed and you should be able to get it from the Dealer for that cost, if not check with another Dealer.

sweet! I sold cars for a bit, so I know how the game works.. found that they have about 2500 mark up.. Just the couple people I talked to acted like It was damn near impossible to get any type of a deal on one.. I wonder if msrp changes depending on where you are at? I am in utah.. The one I found with dc,shrtbed, manual, trd-o.r. was 29,500 sticker.. ARe you guys loving ur taco's still?

I still like mine ,except i cant wheel it right now cause my tires are to big . My only complaints are the mileage has never been better than 19. This was with the stock tires .

GO to the AAA website. It will list dealers that have negotiated a AAA price. With each of these dealers it will list a salesman to contact. Go to the dealership and ask for that person, and tell him you are AAA. When I purchased my vehicle, they took my AAA membership number.

I got the auto. I used to be a hardcore manual person, but my XJ was an auto and since then I have switched. Especially for wheelin'

Got my '05 in April of '05. If you can get one for 27,000 to 29,000 get it. I got the sport 4x4 Double cab and it is a great truck. Of course mine didn't stay stock for long but when it was it was real fun to drive fast on the freeways. Great truck to do a solid axle swap on too. Toyota put everything where we need. You'll love the truck, but it is tough to get any kind of rebate or deal on them cause they don't stay on the lot for long. I had to order mine and waited two months to get it. Good luck.

DirtyDC05
01-21-2006, 05:19 PM
If they have more than 1 on the lot you can deal with them for sure . Wait till near the end of the month then go to the dealer and tell them you will give them 27k for it .They will probably be more flexible due to commision .Dont pay 29k there is no reason . The guy I bought mine from didnt even hesitate. I actually got a 400 instant rebate because my wife recently graduated from nursing school. So I actually told them 27,500 plus the rebate thats how I got it for 27,100.

I just picked up my '06 DBL-Cab short-bed V6 6-speed 4x4 SR5 with the TRD Offroad package in Silver Streak Mica for $26,762.00. This was a quote from the internet manager at a dealership about 40 miles from my house. Sticker on the truck was $29.900.00.

Wow... after looking at the prices of new Tacos on the Toyota site, I'm kinda glad I bought my used 2001 instead.

Those puppies sure went up in price quite a bit over the past few years.

It's alot more truck than the previous model years, and when I bought my 2003 new in 2002 it was almost $25,000.00.

Thats not really true. I paid less for my '05 Taco than I did for my '02 Taco and I ordered both of them.

Costco members can get a discount. Just don't make them think you want it and say you can get a better price somewhere else then get up and walk out make sure you leave a phone number. By the time you get home they will be calling about making a deal. Great truck I love my 05

Thanks for all the info.. : ) I am going to get it soon, just want to make sure I get the EXACT truck I want.. About a year ago, I almost got a yota, but then got a xj.. I did a ton of shiz too it, and after about 3 months and 6 grand in upgrades, I was pissed I didnt get a yota!! But its sold now to make room in garage for one! So this time, I am getting me a real truck! (sorry jeep lovers). Cant wait for something that is more reliable, rides better, and even wheels better..

I think it is. I got my 01 with about 58K miles on it, well maintained, and in mint condition for just under $11K. A similarly equiped 2006 is nearly $22K and has tiny assed tires(215 70 R15), while mine came with 265 70 R16's.

I'm prettty happy with what I got for the price relative to a new whip(5 years newer, and twice the price). :)

Wait, your trying to compair a used truck to a new one! Now that doesn't make any sense. Try it with the cost of two new trucks like I did. The sticker on my '02 DC trd 4x4 was 29,786.00. I paid 29,200.00 for it in October of 2002. The sticker on my'05 DC TRD 4x4 Sport was 29,300.00. I paid 27,500.00 it from Power Toyota in Irvine over the internet in April of 2005. Try compairing apples to apples. Not a 5 year old truck to a brand new one. Jeez!

depends where your from as far as price. in az phoenix area i paid 27,900 for the whole shebang. toyota almost never has rebate's on taco's. yea the toyota dealerships are prics when it comes to knocking off $$$$ from msrp.

oh ya, and any downsides of this new bodystyle, motor, 6 spd trans, ect?

Some of the guys that have the six speed have complained that there's not enough room down on the floor for three pedals.

They seem to feel that the clutch pedal has a goofy shape and is difficult to use.

Also, there were some problems with the manual tranny in the '05 X-runner.
I think they were tearing up syncros- not sure.

My '05 (Auto tranny) has been awesome, the only thing i could complain about is the sqeaky rear springs, but that doesn't really bother me.

I love my 05 trd o.r. acc cab 6 speed v6, I shopped around on the internet and found a used one with 1000 miles on it for $23,000 out the door. some guy took a big hit when he traded it back into the dealer for a highlander.

On carsdirect.com I just priced out an 06 DC 4x4 w/ TRD Off-Road, AT Trans., Tow Pkg, MSRP $29,415, their price, $27,400. Basically a $2000 discount. I would use this info as a baseline when going to the dealer. Tell them you can get the truck for this price now. This is what I am going to do.

I called a couple Dealers asking about this same truck, they found 3 of them and they are all right under or right over $28,000 stickered, the 1st Dealer offered 1 to me for $26,000, so I called a different Dealer and they said they would beat it and offered any of the 3 for $25,500 and the guy said he could still knock another couple hundred off if I really wanted the truck.

I paid 30K out the door for mine. Before taxes and all the other shit I think it was right around 27K. This was back in early '05 when the trucks were damn near impossible to find. I'd think you could pick one up for a little less now. I see 3-4 trailers full of them from the factory on my way home from work every day.

I got my 05 access cab trd sport for 28,500. The dealer quoted me over 30k for the truck and I got up and started to walk out the door. The salesman asked what he could do to make the deal happen today. I gave him my offer and after he got up went into the back room and sat down two more times we made the deal. I am extremely happy with my 05. I traded in a 96 chevy zr2 pickup for it that I sunk a lot of money into. The only problem I have now is that I have to take my taco in because im losing power steering fluid and I can't see where its leaking from. Other than that its an awesome truck!

One thing you should know, is that a dealer will quote you whatever you want to hear over the phone just to get you on the lot! Also, be wary of a dealer that quotes you a deal that seems "too good to be true". They'll make you come in, believing you're getting this great price, and after you've sat there a while the salesman will come back saying they can't give you THAT particular price, but they'll do the best they can to "get close to that".

Also, it's a VERY good idea to know what your credit scores are before you walk onto any lot. Dealers will often times give you a good price on the truck, but rape you on the backside by quoting you a high interest rate. They'll tell you, "sorry, but your score is low and this is the interest rate that matches your score." This is where if you already know your credit scores, you'll know if the salesman/woman is trying to f you.

Lastly, don't get caught up on the amount of your monthly payment. Go in to the dealer knowing what your monthly budget is and what the totaly price of the truck, interest rate, and length of the loan HAVE to be in order to get you that payment. The biggest thing salesman use to make money is asking you: "so what do you want your payments to be?" If you already know: your credit score (which will tell you interest rate), how many months you want to finance, and the price you need to pay to make your monthly payment, you'll be set!

Remember, if you walk away from the dealer and you think you got the best deal of a lifetime... you still got screwed by the dealer because they ALWAYS make money.

All very good information. There is only 1 Toyota Dealer that is about a 35 Minute drive from me, and then it turns to hour + drives to any other, so I have been able to secure a price over the phone before getting to the Dealer, I drove 130 Miles to get my last Taco for the price I wanted.

are you planning on wheeling the truck at all? i would get some sliders before i got running boards or tube steps. mine came with the tube steps when i bought it, i took them off and have some sliders being made. the tubes look good for the street, but offer little to no protection off road. my :2cents:

I don't do muddy, rocky off-roading... I just take her to the beach... loose stuff in the trails in the dunes in Cape Cod... I like the look of the tube steps... but the dealer wanted to charge me $995 when the MSRP is $439!

I'm in Northern Ca. Paid 25,227 for TRD Off-Road, access cab, floor mats and tow package. I finally went and bought one.. well, kinda.. I am in utah and they ARE ALL out of WHITE dbl cab, trd/offroad in auto.. So, mine is coming from the factory, but should be here in 2-3 weeks.. I told them about the AAA deal (that I found out is a hell of a deal, its a flat 400 over invoice) that I found, but it was about a 6 hour drive away.. so they did a flat 300 over invoice, and I was happy with that! Congrats man!! I have had mine a week and two days. Must say I love it, but I need to get used the width and length as compared to my 94 P/U Reg Cab. Strange driving with all that room in the double cab but it is sweet.

I do find myself coming up from behind the truck in the dark, and grabbing the first door I come to, and realizing oh shit this is the back seat.

I do hope they fix the lack of room for the clutch foot in the Man trans on future models. That is going to take some gtting used to. Also the parking brake rod smokes my toes if I am not careful.

Supposedly I paid invoice for mine from John Elway Toyota in Denver. Out the door (taxes and dealer fees) 28,700 For a Double Cab Auto TRD SR5 Off Road Package, towing package, 7 speaker JBL with sub, Floor Mats, and TRD Exhaust (from factory $575 option) I think I did real good.

How do you'll with the upgraded JBL system like it? Does the sub sound pretty good, and what size is it? THanks, Dave

I am replacing mine this weekend.. If anyone would like to throw me a offer for the in-dash changer and sub, let me know. it sounds "ok" for factory. I have never owned a vehicle with a stock stereo, so I am not impressed easy..

For my 06', TRD Sport #2, Double Cab, 4x4, Long Bed, i paid $28,000 OTD. Before CA. tax and what not it was $25,644.33. They tried to get me to buy the truck for $34,000 and said that there was no way that they could do $28k, well about an hour later I got the deal I offered. A lot of people make the mistake of getting stuck on the monthly payment, and how much down, or trading in there car. First get them down to the amount Out The Door you are willing to pay, if you get them where you want them, then tell them, "Oh, i got $X,XXX to put down." Try not to let them take over the deal, remember your the one buying the car. BTW, salesman, and there managers hate it when you get ready to leave since you won't take the deal. But like what was already said leave your number, but in my experience if they let you leave then they just can't meet your offer. Good luck. Hope this helps.

The Stereo sounds good not as good as the stock Harman Kardon in my BMW M3 but good. I believe the sub is a 8" . I'm happy with it for now

How do u like ur trd exhaust? I had a gibson exhaust on my xj, and I loved how it sounded.. It wasnt loud at all, just sounded clean.. So, I can only imagine how it would sound on a REAL motor! lol.. Any one have any experience with the gibson system on this motor yet? I would go trd, but shiz is costy..
Go TRD all the way it's tuned perfect for our trucks sounds really clean and not to loud our drowning, may be the best 6 cylinder I have heard plus you gain performance from it. I like the massive oval tip too. These guys sell it pretty cheap Click Here $380 (http://www.newtoyotaparts.com/product/?id=1888)

It's pretty weak. You'd be much better off by adding an aftermarket sub and amp. It'd be cheaper too.

Hopefully I'll be in the market for an 06 towards the end of the year--sounds like I'll get the non-JBL system and upgrade. Thanks,

Bought my 06 Access Cab 4x4 V6 6 speed TRD OffRoad Package two weeks ago. Sticker was 29,972... I walked out the door tax/title/license for $28K. Got him down to $25,363 before I took his offer. I couldn't be happier or gotten a better truck for the price. On an Access cab with all the options if you get them down to mid $25K you are getting a good deal. Add about $1100 for the Double Cab.

Always ALWAYS deal with the internet departments. They are paid based on volume of vehicles sold not commissions on each vehicle. They have more leeway with prices and are generally easier to deal with. I negotiated my deal and took the test drive in all of ten minutes. Picked up the truck the next day. Having to do all the paperwork is what takes the time.

Doing a TON of internet research is VERY helpful. Also, ask around. On the FJ Cruiser forums, we had a couple of sales guys that were pretty helpful members. I called one of em and actually asked him how to get the best deal on my truck. He said to send him a VIN # of the one I was looking at. He sent me back the ACTUAL dealer invoice that showed all of the prices and fees the dealers try to add. He even showed me which ones were negotiable and which ones weren't.

He said that getting the price down between $24,500 and $26,500 is the goal and anything below $26K you are practically stealing the truck.

Feel good - you did good. You did REAL good.
