Thats was in mid Feb.

What type of wheeling are you looking to do? If you just want to play in alittle mud then there is a little spot here in Jax off of Morse Av. If you want to go trail riding then North ONF or Osceola are great for a day trip. I and most of the other local Jax guys know our around ONF but I've never been to Osceola. My wife have family that lives really close to South ONF and I maybe able to work something out with her brother (who is a care taker of this ranch) to pitch a tent on the ranch. The only thing about that is there are alot of bears on the ranch and the last time my wife stayed there her car had four big sandy bear paw prints on the trunk and side of the door. Also I wouldn't want to have alot of trucks there so maybe four to six max. I've been thinking about this since the last camp out at South ONF. Also the ranch is only about 15 mins south of highway 42 (PowerLine trails). I'll talk to Joni tonight about it and we call him.

There is next to nothing that is "around town." That place off of morse is just a place to get your rig dirty after it rains. Nothing technical or hard. But after a good rain it will get deep. Other than that you have to drive a ways. At least 45 min or so.

Not everyone just wants to go get some clean flex shots and call it a wheeling trip.

Morse is a okay to relieve some no place to wheel tension on the drive home from work. I've been out there a few times and had a fun time but I've had the Runner out there.

Joni said that her brother shouldn't have a problem with a few of up camping at his place every now and then.

So, to get to morse av. GO north on I295 get off on blanding blvd go north on blanding blvd, you'll pass a Mazda dealer on the left and there's a spot light right past teh Mazda dealer, at the stop light turn left on morse av. take morse av down past a 4 way stop sign and right before you get to a over pass look to right and you'll see the dirt trail that goes down beside the overpass. Just follow the trail from there and have fun. I live about 4 miles from there as does Bosco and Drew. So if you get stuck give me a call.

I plan on fixing it tomorrow afternoon, it's only the stater.

Welcome to the site Willy, I've read all about your rig on Marlin. We haven't really decided when or where we're going on another run but I'd really like to see your rig in action. I think the next place may either be Osceola or ONF (South ONF I hope).

More then likely it was him. He has a spare 3rd mounted on the front bumper for what the $h!t hits the fan. He willys is really cool and I'm glad that I got to see it in person and I hope I can go wheeling with him.

YUP, high pinnions don't like to be in the rear. Something about not getting oil to the outer pinnion bearing.

Working on a oiler to fix that.

Let me know when and where.

pi
01-25-2006, 09:58 PM
As well as can be expected running on stock tires, no lift, no ground clearance. I had a blast.
-Mike

p.s. got stuck twice and ripped off the front portion of my passenger's side front fender flare, burned a hole in the passenger's rear... some minor pinstriping etc..

Well, I know some real good mud/trails and sand pit areas back home. It'd be down in the North Port/Port Charlotte area. it'd make for a great day trip of wheeling. let me know if you guys are intersted.

Hey Jason,

Have you ever heard of the dover pits? It's apparently a few miles east of Brandon. Just curious because you are more from that neck of the woods than anybody I know of. I've got alot of family down south of brandon it might make me an excuse to go down there and wheel/visit/mountain bike on weekend.

Looks interesting but I dont know if it's worth the gas down there for a day trip...

Here's some pics from FJOA

I've been wheeling the dover pits for a while now. But lately I don't go out there. it's FEDERAL land, and the cops have been giving tickets/arresting people who go out there. Last Time i was out there, freakin helicopter came out... so we split. never been back since. There were a lot of stolen vehicles out there, and burnded to the ground. that last time I was out there... I didn't see ANY of them. so the cops had to of removed them.

I saw on FJOA that it was owned by waste management now. When was the last time you were out there?

It also said that in the center of the property somewhere there is a superfund site with toxic truck swallowing sludge

J94runner

I was out there about 1yr ago. I looked up the history of that place. It's technically called "sydney mines". they mined it in the early 1900's, then used it for a dumping site of Grease from restaurants and septic tank trucks until the 60's if I can recall correctly. for the 20-30yrs it's been land thats just tested every 1x year? for toxic levels of things. I love riding out there. WHen I looked it up, it was being run by Hillsborough county, but it's "federal" land from the docs I found on it. b/c I think it's the EPA that tests it.
