My truck still does the death wobble now and then, so I think I have a slight caster problem, does anyone know if the woble means positive or negative caster? Or does any one with a Solid axle and no woble have a picture of their spring mounts so that I can compare to mine. Thanks
Matt

What do you have to do get a spring shim?

yes, but before I get shims I have to know how much my caster is off

I think mine is around 11* and neils was at like 3* (or the other way around  ). He was going to try to change his closer to my caster. If that helps...

I rotated my Front axle's pinion up. So I got to chose my Caster angle. with the spring perches flat (0 degrees) I have 2 degrees of caster. Never have had the death wobble or any such things. I've heard 2* is about ideal for front axle trucks.

How did you do that mod or how much did it cost to have it done. Does your steering tend to wander a little or is that cured too?

I did it myself. Just ground the weldeds around the inner "C" and rotated them, checked the angles 100x's to make sure things were EXACTLY where they need to be and then welded really well around them again. My steering is great. minimal wonder, no wobble or anything. I should of rotated the pinion up more though.... b/c than i could of used a CV joint... shoulda just pointed it at the Tcase.

That's a good way to get the caster right. BUT since you did the perches instead of the knuckles, if you'd rotated the pinion up wouldn't you have created a bunch of degrees of positive caster? And when you say 2 degrees is ideal, you mean 2 degrees negitave, correct?

dude, go to 4x4wire.com and see how it's done. he cut off the perches and rewelded them so the after rotating the knuckles he point the axle and the newly angled knuckles where he wanted.
This seems pretty easy if you think about it. It's just scary to do cos you have to be EXACT. I'll probably try it considering that have another vehicle and i can pick up another housing for cheap if i screw it up. :welder:
anyway, i'm sure pirate has guys the know the premier caster for your axle. it's a good question so you probably won't get flamed. check the castor on the truck to make sure it's not that. check the alignment. check the shocks (maybe you need new ones). the shackles in the front might not be the ones that are best for your setup (this too can change your castor). what kinda springs do you have in the front? death wobble doesn't have just one particular cause
