This post it to shed light on another alternative for D44 cromo front axles. These axles are 4340 chromoly and are dual heat treated (through and induction), and they are beefed up in the proper areas. As of now they are have chevy/waggy axle outers 19 spline and the inners are made to order.
They have a 10 Year warrenty no questions asked. They are somewhere inbetween the price of superiors and yukons, probably about warn shaft price. I just got mine today and they look sick!
Got mine through www.roundeyes.com, they are eager to help and had great service. Plus the shafts came promptly, 2 weeks and 1 day (I was quoted 2-2.5 weeks) from order to doorstep, thats with custom made inners.
The UPS man made me happy today! :D

I got some yukon superjoints from my girlfriend (she's great :D ) for Christmas so they will go nicely with the axles. :D

thanks, ya the ups man usually makes me unhappy as about 50% or more of the shit I order ends up taking way longer than I should.
But for now I am happy. :) Glad to have a transaction go smoothly. ;)
oh btw thanks for the offer on borrowing the axle housing, as you see I picked one up from chris so your spare set can live on. ;)

Todd,
What Axle shafts were you originally running on your truck?

Do the splines have a rolled edge? I was eyeing those at polyperformance the other day and wondered if anyone ran them. Thinking about doing these and my rears since their ad says the Tacoma rears have NEVER been broken, when I go up to 37's.

I've been talking to Alloy since September, and they are making me some pre-production rear shafts for Tacos that should be priced very competively priced with Poly Perf. Unfortunetly they have ran into some issues overseas and are hoping to get some word soon on the status.

They are also coming out with a new Ujoint for D44 & D60 in comparison to Randys and Yukon.

They recently relocated shops in my City of Corona so that has also played in production delays.

Alloy is a great company and I would highly recommend their axles.

brian, I paid $615 shipped to my door after taxes. Minus shipping and taxes they are $555 for 2 chevy outers and 2 custom inners. THats about $200 more than a set of yukons but at least $150-$200 cheaper than superiors. I was quoted just over $800 for a set of superiors from one company.

Talking to bruce at roundeyes he said that prices may rise on alloy usa shafts in the semi near future.

I priced out Yukons, and they were a bit cheaper. But I don't like the one year warranty. I don't wheel my truck enough to make that worth my while. I was considering Superiors, but they are twice the cost of Yukons, Maybe Alloy USA is a nice alternative...

What do you think about those Yukon U-joints? I guess three big players are Yukon, Bobby Long, CTM. I'd wonder if Bobby would ever put these on his Axle breaking machine and test them out...

I'm working on it.... :D I just got the truck back Monday, I need to build a new front winch bumper, new sliders, and finish putting the interior back together. Then I'd like to take it on a shake down run before the Rubicon this year. If I stay at my current employer, then I should be able to run the Con...

Thats why I got the alloy usa, seems like the right price for great stuff.
Anyway, about the joints. CTMs are proven to be bad ass but they are $200 per u joint and they need to rebuilt every year or 2 with new bushings and stuff. ($80, not sure if this is per joint or for hte pair) That just starts to get pricey, as far as the yukon joints go I don't think anyone has broken one yet, but I don't know for sure. Both the yukon and Long joint have similarities in that they have cap to trunion contact with no bushings. I think they are both great products, I would run either one, katy just happened to get me the yukon joints and I am very pleased with that.
The downside of the cap to trunion contact is the need for more contstant greasing to keep everything happy. The long is made of 300m and the yukon is 4340. Long may be a bit stronger but I don't think that the yukons will pose a strenght issue.
